Default 4 free oil changes from Saturn Authorized Service...did you get them too?

Was kinda shocked today to find in the mail an official looking envelope from Saturn, given the winddown that's underway of the brand.

Anyway to my pleasant surprise, I opened it up to find a coupon worth four free oil changes and tire rotations that can be used at my nearest Saturn Authorized Service dealer, which is now a Nissan dealer but is the former Saturn dealership that still employs all the same Saturn techs.

I assume this is going to be a mass mailing campaign from GM but was just wondering if anyone else got this yet?

The oil changes are worth just north of $100 alone, not to mention the free tire rotations, so I was a pretty happy camper after today's mail delivery.

The perks of owning this brand just keep coming, even as the fat lady is warming up her voice in preparation to sing.

At LEAST once a week all I get is an email or regular mail offer for an extra $1000 towards a GM vehilce. I bought a 2010 Equinox and of course the Nox and the Terrian are not eliagble for the $1000 I do all my oil changes now as the Saturn dealer near me changed the oil but not the filter (I did the change with an STP filter before they did and when I did the next one a STP filter was in their). The answer from the service manager was "It happens more often thean you think"

I got the coupons from GM about 3 months ago. I've already used 2. The going price for a service on the vue is about $45.00, so I guess I am getting about $180.00 in free service. It may be a "perk", but I consider it rather feeble attempt at compensation to keep Saturn owners from bailing out of GM when the time comes to trade. I'll take what I can get, but I will buy what I want even if its not GM.

Received the free oil change coupons for the 07 Outlook but not for our 03 VUE. Bummer as right now I consider the VUE as my main drive since the Outlook is in the shop having the timing chain replaced.

Purchased it 12/01/07 and right now it has 27,730 miles on it.

I had it in for the washer heater recall and mentioned that I had the it into three other dealers for a "stabilink service" with the "traction control is inactive" message as well.

Their mechanics have seen this on multiple occasions on other vehicles - the GMC/Buick versions of the Outlook and have replaced the timing chains.

When they pulled my Outlook into the garage the light came on and there was severe hesitation when they pressed on the gas peddle. Same thing I had been experiencing. Their service manager called and told me the news last Wednesday afternoon. He did say when they looked at it after they pulled it out there were some issues and it would certainly have failed.

Guess I was lucky because they could have ignored my complaint the same as the other three dealers did. I picked up the Outlook yesterday afternoon and I have to say this.....it runs better now than before. I press on the gas and "wow" it does not "think before moving". BIG difference.

At 27,000 miles and change you have a timing belt problem. Hope it is under warranty. This is more severe than the L series failures on the 2.2

Yep under warranty until 12/01/2011 or 36,000 miles which ever comes first.

At this moment I have NO FAITH in the Outlook and I am ready to get something else. Although I do believe that I may have a problem convincing my husband of that.

Seriously if we ever replace either the VUE, which I doubt, or the Outlook, looking pretty good on that, I am leaning towards a Nissan. Although I will admit the Ford Flex looks pretty darn good.

Thanks for your response!

I just got a coupon yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I have been doing my own changes with Mobil 1 since new, but I would be a fool not to take advantage of this. Guess I'll be heading to the Chevy dealer.

BTW, thanks to high altitude driving during vacation, I got one tank at 36 mpg and another at 40 mpg! That was a pleasant surprise for a 10 year old car!

I was a bit surprised that we received three packets Monday - each with a coupon for one of our cars (our 99 wagon, 07 Ion and 09 Vue). Of course, we'd always had work done at Saturn but still, four freebies for a 10+ year old car isn't bad!

That sounds like a good deal. I never received any coupons, or offers for free anything.

Today, June 30, I received an email from Kia of Cerritos saying that they were now doing former Saturn dealer service, except warranty work. They offered 10% off maintenance service.

I am out of the 36 month warranty, so have been using a local repair shop for maintenance work. They let me bring some of my own parts; Mobil 1 and oil and cabin air filters, for instance.

I think a couple posters in the Outlook forums have mentioned the timing chain replacement as well, and as you mentioned the techs noticed it with other models.

Nissan doesn't really have anything comparable to the Outlook. Flex is pretty nice, a little lower than an Outlook. An all-new Explorer is due out soon and might steal some Flex sales (thought the Flex doesn't sell that great already) so if you were to trade you might get a better deal then.

THANKS!

The Nissan is the Armada although I think it sits way higher and I may need a step ladder to get into it.

I like the looks of the Flex and I have to admit that when Ford didn't take any "taxpayer" money handouts I was impressed. My experience with Ford's has not been good. I have rebuilt transmissions in the two I owned and of course no warranty and the last was a front wheel drive so talk about $$$$.

Explorer I will have to check that one out!

Appreciate your response and have a great day!

Oh and PS: the warranty expires 12/01/2010 not 2011...fingers got slap-happy.

I hope this offer is for ALL Saturn car owners. I am about due for an oil change and this would be a great present from GM if it comes. I haven't gotten it yet. I'll be on the lookout for it though. Thanks for the heads up.

I guess business must be so good, they don't need any more. I have tried 3 times to get an appointment to get the oil changed. Other than a canned response from their system when I made the request, nothing.

I figured the whole point of this was to get lost customers into the stealership and either get new service business, or get someone with a butt-load of disposable income to come in and look at new vehicles.

No such offer up here in British Columbia, however earlier in the year the local chev dealer sent a mailer offering a free oil & filter with purchase of a safety check..... thanks but no thanks. Springmans in Langley continue to offer top notch service here in the lower mainland so everything is thumbs up.

I just got 2 sets of 4 (Total of 8). The VUE is history but they gave me coupons. I don't like dealers doing oil changes .. Maybe they will do the changes on the new Nox?

You need to go the dealer to make the appointment.
The second part of your comment is correct and a good idea, in fact if I had a normal job I might be tempted to "shop" for a new car.

The link spacing of the chain was incorrect, it causes cam timing to be "distorted" and sets an error code and will eventually damage the chain. In bad/ignored cases the chain rocks enough to pull the cam shafts out of their bearings.
The automotive press figures that the Flex will disappear soon after the Explorer gets going.
