Default Starting a project: HHO generator

So I've built myself an HHO generator based partially on plans and reports that I've found scattered on the web. I used 304 stainless steel screen material and stainless 316 bolts for electrodes. My cells (2) hold about 25 oz. of water a piece. I add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to each, which results in a cold amperage draw of around 6 amps, and a hot or maximum draw around 11 amps. I have a flash arrestor in line, and the mixture is being sucked in via the EGR valve's vacuum port (before the solenoid) as I have my EGR system disconnected anyway. This is my first tank of gas with the system installed, so we'll see where it goes.

One problem. I can't find an O2 sensor extender that fits my car. The standard sized one is too big; my O2 sensor doesn't fit inside of it. Anyone know where I can find the right size extender or anti-fouler? I don't think this system is going to do well without it. On the other hand though, I can tell a power difference already. If I sit at a light or something and go to touch the gas to take off, there is a lot more horsepower/torque than there was to begin with. I think this has to do with that EGR vacuum line being cut off by the throttle body at idle, and the line filling with hho gas, then being sucked in as soon as I touch the gas.

Any input, feedback, similar results, or information is more than welcome. This is just an experiment to see what I can get out of it.

http://www.fuelsaving.info/index.htm

just one quote from this website:
In principle this does of course work. The problem is that the whole process is very inefficient, and the energy you get from burning the hydrogen cannot possibly be enough to supply the energy required to make the hydrogen in the first place. With an on-board system, the engine is only about 40% efficient at best, and the alternator perhaps 90%, so even if you assume the electrolysis is 100% efficient you only get back about a third of the energy you put in.

HHO has never been PROVEN (under controlled circumstances, w/ data to back it up) to work. actually, mythbusters and popular mechanics have both proven it DOESN'T work.

I do realize the "facts" surrounding the whole idea are all sketchy at best, but I'm willing to accept that. I'm just in it to see what it may or may not do for me. I am already pretty happy getting 28-34 mpg in a 16 year old saturn, but i'm just curious to see if anything positive comes of it.

Good for you, testing it out yourself instead of believing what someone tells you.

My crystal ball tells me you will initially see a 5 - 10 % improvement in mileage. Then in a month or so it will return to the original mileage. This will be due to your subconsciencely driving more conservatively.

Be warned the last guy who tried this on the forum burned thru two alternators before he figured out the cause.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

this could go both ways. people love to believe all the claims of these devices (same w/ 'chips' and what not) but as soon as someone tries to save them some time, trouble and headaches, they don't want to listen.

hey, I don't care really if you want to waste your time on something that others have shown FAILS. the math doesn't support it, common sense doesn't support it, physics doesn't support it, but hey! you might be the one to make it work.
good luck to you !

I would refer any of you who don't believe everything you see on the internet to the last page of the current (Dec.08) issue of Car & Driver; the word they use is "bogus" to describe HHO generators.

why do you want to use an antifouler on the front o2 sensor? the o2 sensor in the header is used for fuel control. do you want the trick the pcm into adding or less fuel? usually you'd use an antifouler on the rear heated o2 sensor on a 96-later car when the cat is punched out so the service engine soon light doesn't illuminate. anyhow you can get some antifoulers from Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts. you need to measure and/or take your o2 sensor with you in the store to make sure it fits.
