Default Running on ACCessory at Drive-in

There is an actual (and still operating) Drive-In Movie Theater by our house that my wife and I love going to.

What they tell us at the theater, is to put the car on the Accessory position and the radio will work but the battery won't die. For the first 2 years I had my Ion 2 QC, it didn't die. We would sit there for 4-6 hours and watch all 2 or 3 movies and it wouldn't die on me. The last 2 times we went there, my battery has died. The most recent time, last weekend, my car only lasted 2 hours before it died (on Accessory).

Anyone have any ideas as to why that might be?

Possible Battery needing replacement/recharging?

You need a new battery, assuming you have clean terminals and a good alternator.

Next time I take it in to the dealer, I'll have them test my alternator. I thought something was up with my battery. I guess I'll have to invest in a new one .

I've been tossing around the idea of installing a high-performance alternator anyway, so I might just do that when I get the money. Do you think that's a good idea?

A high performance alternator wouldn't hurt, but if it's good, an optima battery would be a better use of your money.

Don't buy Optima. Go to a local car stereo shop and get a better one. If you're sucking the battery for extended periods of time this is the style battery you want.

Where do you get a ten year warranty? I saw 36 month for red top and 12 month for yellow top. The stereo shop does not recommend Optima. I went to Autozone and had to listen to the countless events of returned Optima's with dead cells and what not.

Try Exide. Anything recommended for high powered stereos is where to go. Optima is just popular, err, appeears popular because of the extensive advertising.

The OPTIMA in my white 2007 ION was first bought for my 1994 S-10 SS back in 1995. Yes it's now 14 years old.

The Optima in my grey 2007 was first bought for my 2000 SW2 back in 2001. Yes it's now 8 years old.

Thats when batteries last about 20 months in Arizona. Optimas are jusk, ok.

Rather than try either, I'll probably end up spending $$ to get a DieHard. Never had ANY issues with that.

When I worked at AutoZone (2 years) we had nicknames for every type of battery, including DieHards which tend to not give much warning they are going, so then you do Die Hard on the side of the road.

When I was at the Saturn dealership in PA a month ago, they had some Silver Calcium Allow batteries. Upon doing some research, they sound really really good and might be what you are looking for. I don't know cost, but they will be my next replacement battery. They are the next wave.
