Default is taking out the air box bad?

put in a short ram AEM intake but it usses the old air box .. is removing the air box so the filter is exposed bad .. like will it suck up water in the rain or driving on wet roads or is it a safe thing to do ?

short ram likely isn't going down far enough to be of concern.

...

its going to depend on where the filter is sitting. The older sebrings were called "bottom feeders" because the inlet for the air box was really low in the front corner and if you hit a deep enough puddle you could hydrolock the engine. A short tube with the filter sitting in place of the air box is high enough not to pose any weather issues. You may want to build a heat shield to keep the underhood hot air away from it though
