I have taken pictures of my speedometer at 100mph before, it's really not that hard. One hand on the wheel, one on the camera, it's not like you have to shift at that speed. Maybe it's because I have always driven a stick, but I can't drive with both hands on the wheel. I've had my Dad's Corvette up to 120 with one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick.

124mph at 150,114 miles on a second year model, if that doesn't prove Saturn reliability, I don't know what will. I planned on snapping one at 100mph at 100,000 miles, but the weather didn't cooperate.

I've never had my SC2 up to 124, but when shifting from 4th to 5th at 100mph, there is still plenty of power. One of these days I'll top it out, after I get new tires.

By the way, the 15" Firehawks are rated for 130mph. Well, at least the ones that came on my SL2 & SC2.

...
My Saturn history:
1993 SL2 100,406 miles ('94-'98)
1999 SC2 118,537 miles ('98-'12)
2005 VUE 25,705 miles ('05-'09)
2008 Astra 27,014 miles ('09-'12)

wouldn't that be an incredibly stupid feature to design into a car which relies on power steering and power brakes? I wouldn't want to be caught dead in a car at that speed and with a stopped engine. The brakes will work about 5 times and then they'll go stiff, the power steering... probably not much either. I can see the lawsuit already, provided you survive the ride. (sure it's easy to survive it if you're on a straightaway but what if you're coming up on some curves)

Fastest ever in my 2000 SL1 is 105mph and that was on a long straight decline.

She coulda gone faster, but I realized juts how fast I was going ina light car and slowed down.

I have noticed that these cars "like" to go fast. 75 certainly doesn't 'feel' like 75 - nice and smooth.

75 feels like 20 in a Saturn, if you ask me. They run smooth if you have them set up right.

I'm a wuss. I've only been up to 105. I have no doubt I can hit the limiter, though. I need to invest in some weather stripping and sound deadening. It gets damn loud when you go 85+!

If your looking for speed, your trying to do it in the wrong kind of car.

It's like trying to turn your 15 year old T.V. into a Flat Screen H.D. T.V.
Whats the point.

I had my '97 SLm up to 100 once, took it like a mile to get there. I hit 95 or so pretty easily (for a 100 hp compact car), but after that it gets really hard to keep going. I rarley, rarley drive that fast anyway because it is so stupid. Back in high school I had my '72 Chevy pickup with a built 350 V8 up to 115, what a scary ride! Shaking and floating all over the road...had the power to do it, but just not in the right vehicle.

The fasted I've done in my SW2 is 95. It drove like a dream...nice and smooth, curves and all. It was about the only way to make those back desert roads remotely interesting to drive.

Supposedly swapping the PCM for one from an automatic will eliminate both the rev limiter and the governor. There are other threads about this here, so do a search. Get one from the same year and model but from an automatic.

I have not tried this yet, but bought one for my 95 SL-2, about $25.00 on eBay. Iím waiting for warm weather to put it in. If it doesnít work, Iíll just resell it. One member, whom I trust, said he took his engine to 8400 RPM at which point it spun a bearing.

I had the auto pcm in my wagon after the engine swap. I brought it up to a little over 130. Not sure why the governor didn't kick in, it still should.

There definitely is no rev limiter though.
