Default slave cylinder problem

Is there a secret to bleeding a slave cylinder. I have a 95 SC2, installed a new clutch and now appear to be having slave cylinder issues. How do I get all the air out. I tried bleeding it by gravity and by pumping the clutch, while holding it down and opening the bleeder, still do not seem to be getting any results. It seems that the slave is not going in far enough to disengage the clutch. Any advice would be helpful.
