1998 SL2
Default Super clean 1st gen (not affiliated)

Single cam, but super clean, and towed, so less than 150k "real" miles. I haven't seen a nice 1st gen like this for sale in 10 years.

Towed an automatic? Isn't that hard on a transmission?

And - if it was on a dolly - it would not register the miles..

Edit to add...

And if the trip odometer reads 0000 - safe bet the odometet is broken - and not actual miles. Very common on 1st gens.

Looks immaculate from those photos. Dust on the engine suggests a dry area, maybe clean underneath. One concern is emissions - did it pass or will this be a major issue? Second is when will clutch replacement occur? Great price even if money is spent to keep it running.

The car in the listing is a manual. From what I know, as long as the key is turned to run and the transmission is in neutral, you can safely flat tow these cars. Manual or automatic. The key needs to be in run though for the odometer to count the miles. I'm pretty sure the trans fluid will flow regardless, but it won't be cooled so you're not supposed to go more than 65 or something.

You are correct. It is manual.

The listing first lists it as an automatic - then twice as a manual. The interior picture confirms manual.

I just read as far as "automatic transmission" and quit.

It's in central CA, so it should be 110% rust free.

Current tags in CA means it passed emissions at worst two years ago.

The Saturn TAAT automatic transmission is one of the few that can be flat towed without supplemental lubrication. I've towed many of them thousands of miles with no problems, mostly on freeways. I've towed my current daily driver(97 SL2 auto) 2000 miles and several shorter trips with the engine off, key in so that the transmission goes to neutral and steering follows. No complications, and the transmission is still original at 341K miles. The manual can be towed easily too. I designed a towbar especially for the S-series just so I could do this. It bolts to the sway bar between the subframe mounts.
