Installed ANOTHER front wheel bearing last Thurs because 1 day after I finished the job, someone posted an addendum to the list of instructions warning anyone doing this job to remember when pressing the hub into the bearing, to MAKE SURE the inner race is supported. ONE DAY! The whole job had to be done over again, but it did not take as long. Now the shifter (manual) is notchy and from reading here I need to replace the slave/master clutch actuator assy. It is ordered and might be here today. It cost me $89 delivered with prices up to $120 (plus tax) at the local Carquest and many other pricepoints between. Replaced the right front wheel and hubcap after an unfortunate encounter with a chuckhole one night on the way to play hockey. (BROKE the hubcap, but tire did not go flat)

Going to get the radiator tested.

I'm losing a quart of coolant every 20 miles. Something is off.

This week I took her on an impromptu road trip. ~1700 miles in 3 days with a funeral and burial in the middle.

As for the car, she did just fine. Frustratingly I received new front anti-sway bar bushings the day I left so I didn't get to install and test them with this trip. On the up side she managed ~36 MPG with my bat-outa-hell driving style maintaining 5-10 MPH over the speed limit depending on who I was following. used about a quart of oil for the entire drive too, seemingly half of it on a missed shift...

Trot, the steadily rolling, fox...

Some of the things I did to this car were done before I did so much research on Saturnfans.com, so I bought a fixed orifice PCV valve and installed it and now we'll see if that helps the oil consumption any. It seems to be spotty, sometimes it uses a lot, sometimes not, I dnk why yet.

1). flushed tap water through my windshield washer fluid reservoir and filled it with Rain-X (orange color) bug loosening formula.

2). Purchased 3 gallons of distilled water at the supermarket in preparation of doing a coolant system drain and fill.

Question: What do you recommend as the optimal choice for coolant? ...1997 DOHC with 142,300 miles. I have no leaks to speak of but I do have to add a few ounces to the reservoir tank quarterly to get the low coolant warning light to shut up.

Started gathering supplies for my a/c system-PAG 100 oil with UV dye, R134a refrigerant, tin can tap, and ordered a a/c dryer. Already have the a/c high- low- side manifold gauge set with hoses and a two-stage vacuum pump.

Oh, also bought some DOT 3 synthetic brake fluid to for a brake system flush.

Waiting on a price quote to have my front and rear brake calipers powder-coated along with the Hein rear hub spacers soon so, I can get moving on my rear disc swap. (Still need pads all around and the S*2 subframe with the rear sway bar.)

Did some poking around looking for a GM Tech II (2) system as well. Found a couple promising leads.

For the Eclipse, I'm in the process of sanding down a set of door hinges so, I can re-paint them black. Then, eventually install them on the car. Going to have to invest in a front wheel hub to mock up/test fit a front Evo Brembo brake caliper to a Japanese Galant knuckle and see if my rims will clear it. (If so, they'll go on shortly after. If not, the front brake calipers with pads, rotors, and Galant knuckles will just go up for sale to the DSM crowd and I'll have to settle for 2-piston front calipers from a GSX model. =( )

Okay - but - 60% coolant to 40% distilled water? or 40% coolant to 60% distilled water?

If you said 50% I wouldn't have had to ask.

If you said 50% I wouldn't have had to ask.

It's the myth of the magical mixture. If you do want the mixture to raise the boiling point to above fan on temp, look at the chart and then subtract the pressure rise temp provided by the cap. Then figure out what mixture you would want to go above fan on temp, as it varies with type and make of antifreeze.

If your system is operating properly, you can use any mixture within what the manufacturer recommends. More water, better coolant and lower boilover and freeze protection. More coolant, less cooling and better boilover and freeze protection.

And really if you lose pressure you're also losing a great deal of your temp rise capabilities as well as cooling. Pressure in the system raises the boiling point more than the coolant does.

Easy way ( per Old Nuc ): Dump in the whole gallon of coolant, then finish topping off with distilled. Gives you approx. 60% coolant/40% distilled.

Drove the saturn to work today. 100% water and 0% coolant.

Looks like we didn't leak like we normally do. So I'm kind of excited. I may do an oil change when I get home (its been 300 miles since the last oil change LOL) and will probably flush my coolant again this weekend.

Also, I installed a new Radiator, and new radiator hoses on Saturday.

I'm trying to determine if the heads are still leaking after the new gasket or if the filth is still in the system and needs flushing out.
