Default weird noises

ok i have 99 sl1 112000km on it.

when i shift gears and push on the gas i hear a really weird noise from the engine compartment ( i think) it sounds kind of like a chain rattling around( i dont think its the timing chain, i could be wrong but its loud), i can push the gas up and down a few times and it makes the sound then it kind of just disapears, been like this for a long time.

Also when im driving i can hear from the front drivers side a constant whining sound as i drive.

one other thing even though i never see the car puff blue or anything my car goes through oil like crazy.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

The timing chain wouldn't just make noise when you shift. I could hear mine at idle when it was going. I'm guessing it's motor mounts. The one on the top passenger side is the one that goes the most. If you can put your thumb under the U shaped piece of metal, it's time. Also try moving the engine and see if you can see the rubber separating. I might also be the lower mount.

High pitched whine. Does it vary with RPM or car speed?

Yeah these cars are known for using oil. There are a couple things you can try that might help:

There's the MMO piston soak which I did with Sea Foam.
There's cleaning your combustion chamber with water. Be careful doing that one.
There's also a cleaner that you can get from GM that's stonger than the above that might help.

What I would do first is the MMO soak with either MMO or Sea Foam a week or two before an oil change. Then do the combustion chamber cleaning right before the oil change.

What happens on these cars is that the oil ring sticks and you start burning oil even though the compression ring is fine and the engine still has plenty of life left in it.

ill check the mounts here soon and see, as for the whining squeeling sound same sound doesnt matter about speed.

the h***??? Wouldnt that damage the combustion chamber or te valves when it starts up? i mean, your poyuring straight liquid into the combustion chamber, that cant be good for it at all.

alright, well i read up on that MMO stuff, im going to get a few bottles of that very very soon. i was also going to inquire about Lucas Oil Stabilzer, i read up on this ALOT, people here recommend NEVER to use it in a saturn engine, (why is this?) I have it in my engine right now, i havent droped a leak since i put it in there, and my satty runs better then ever (engine not trannsmission ) i was reading up on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm and according to this article with proven efforts, lucas does work very well, why are we recommending not to use it? ( i will be throwing some MMO over night when i get it at my door step

I think you mis-read the info provided in the link. He pretty much proved why he DOESN'T recommend Lucus. Shorthand, it adds air to the oil, which displaces the oil & robbing it of its lubrication properties.

When I did the water cleaning, I used a funnel that had a valve that I could use to regulate flow. A hose would add way too much water way too fast. The trick with the water cleaning is to do it SLOWLY. If you add the water to fast you run the danger of having your engine attempt to compress a cylinder full of water and you'll have scrap metal where an engine used to be. A baster is much preferred to a hose.

Uhh.... I'd hazard if you're burning oil like crazy and never notice blue smoke, you have a clogged cat. The rattle may be bits of crap shaking around inside the cat. Just my leap of logic.

Hmmm no Marvel Mystery Oil in Canada. Can you get Sea Foam??? I've heard of people using Berryman's B-12. Can you get that? If you're seeing that evil black stuff in your exhaust, I'd also recommend slowly running a can one of the above products in through your PCV vacumn hose with the engine running. Try to keep the engine at around 2000 RPM. Not only will it get a lot of that blank stuff out, it'll make a lot of really cool looking smoke.
