Default RPM at speed? Auto transmission

I've got a 2000 SL2 automatic. I just got it on the road legally today, and took a blast down the highway to blow the mice out... take them for a drive, whatever.

I was surprised to see about 2800rpm at 70, and 3000rpm at 75mph. I'm used to V8s, so maybe this is typical? I was expecting another gear to drop the rpm. Shifted kinda weird around town too... sometimes it seemed to downshift/rpm-drop when I didn't expect it. I'm not used to a little 1.9L, Though. My daily driver is a 7.4L!

Our 1999 Sl2 was about 3k at 70mph with the TAAT auto.
If you had a manual you could swap the 5th gear set from a mp2 trans (found on SOHC models), and that brings the rpms down to about 2300 at 70mph depending on what year trans you use. It only varies slightly between years, but there is a major difference vs mp2 and mp3.

Your tach numbers are normal for 4 cyl engines. Be aware that most older 4 cyl engines are around 105 hp, give or take 10 hp with torque around 120 ft lbs. Power and torque half that of a good V8 engine.

Thanks. I Googled it, and found that it's a Saturn thing, but still nothing told me what it meant.
