Default 2008 replacing hood latch cable

Hello Fellow Saturn Vue owners,

I am a female attempting to replace my hood latch cable. I replaced to pull device to engage the hood latch, and I found part of the cable is broke. I was wondering if anyone knew how to do this for example where the firewall was and if I need to remove the front grill.

Thanks,

Karen

Karen ... my service manual stops with 2005 model year, and I've attached extract to replace hood latch cable.

I suspect the 2008 cable replacement will be somewhat similar so you're welcome to review the attachment.

The extract indicates other prerequisite steps are needed to change the cable so let me know if you'd like to see any of those.

BTW ... you'll probably notice the illustration prior to step 4 depicts removing the passenger side carpet retainer - while step 4 text correctly reminds to remove left-side strip.

Karen,

Great timing on your question, I just did this yesterday. I couldn't get the hood on my car open, the cable was seized up and I needed an oil change. So once I got the hood open, I looked and looked and couldn't find where the cable comes thru the firewall. I could hear it, when my daughter was pulling it back and forth from inside the car, but I couldn't find it. I ended up making a bracket to connect the new cable and the old cable, end to end (interior side of new cable to exterior of the old cable). The connector was a metal piece that had was inline with the cables and held them together. I put some tape over the connector to smooth it out, then a little vaseline to make it go thru the firewall gromet and then pulled the old cable from inside the car. I was so happy that my hood release works now as well as my remote starter I thought I was going to have to take it to the shop.

I see this is a common problem. Mine has already been replaced by the dealer. Where does the cable stick? Is there any maintenance you can do to prevent it? My wife's battery dies in her car last winter and I went to jump start and the cable broke. What a PITA that was.
