2002 SL1
Default I'm back in the saddle again.

Howdy folks. Been off the forum for several years after I sold my 93 SC2 (Worst vehicle decision I've ever made). I've regretted it ever since, and a lot has happened in my life since then. Moved, changed job etc. I'm in need of a commuter so I scoured online sources for a clean S series. They're hard to find in MI, since they're usually rotted pretty bad and have wifi rear trailing arm mounts. Anyhow, found a 2002 SL1 5spd bare bones car in fantastic shape all things considered. As best as I can tell, it's a MI car but has spent time in NC based on some university stickers on the rear window, and the fact that it's not completely rotted out yet. It has 165k miles and was well cared for, interior is excellent. It needs brake line repaired and a new exhaust flex pipe, but otherwise is ready to go.

It's nice to be back on here. I'll post some pictures once my kids are in bed and I have time to sit down at my computer.

Welcome back.

We sold our 93 SC2 this summer. It had a solid body. Just sold a 2002 SL2 - it too was solid.

We now have a 96 Sc2 with deer mods to the front end..

Gotta decide what to do there..

So 2 2001 and 3 2002s one being SL...all othetr SC2.

All pretty rust free underneath. 3 michigan cars. 1 AZ. 1 CO......

SO there are a few Mich cars in good condition. You hust have tty look at many to find one...

Whats with the '93 SL2's and getting rid of them being our worst car decisions ever? lol
I miss having an S-Series in general but the '93 SL2 I had was the best of the lot and I miss it the most.

Interesting, where are you located? I've looked at a dozen MI saturns and all were rotted out, but they had well over 200k miles.

I know, right? Cosmetically this 02 SL1 is in better shape than my SC2 was. My SC2 had water damage from leaky sunroof, and the pleather seats were cracking, and lot of the plastic trim was broken. This SL1 has borderline mint interior which is nice. Just need to do some rust repair before it gets too bad, and fix a few other small things and this car should be solid. For $1800 I can't complain in this used car market.

2002 SL1
Default Re: I'm back in the saddle again.

A little late, but as promised here's a picture of my SL1. The seller put some super ugly wheel covers on it so those were the first thing to go. Thought about looking for some factory covers, but I don't really mind the steely look. We'll see.

So far I've:
Fixed brake lines
Front brake pads
Changed oil & filter
New plugs
New TPS
New water pump
New thermostat

Still needs:
New air filter
Flex pipe
Cradle
Rust repair

I might use this thread as a means of tracking maintenance and any mods I may do. If I do any mods, it'll be strictly creature comforts, nothing performance related. I'd like to keep the powertrain stock to maintain reliability and fuel economy, and ultimately life of the vehicle.

Anyhow, here's a picture of the beaut.

That looks pretty clean for the age. Always liked that color on the third gens too.
Enjoy the car and the mileage you get with it!
