Default Cruise Control Not so good on the control part?

2007 Outlook XR w/ everything but the Nav.

We frequently drive up and down from Tahoe to Reno and have realized that when the Outlook is heading downhill and on cruise control that it will allow the Outlook to accelerate as much as it wants. Just this evening cruise control was set at 56, the vehicle got up to almost 75 before I braked.

Is this normal that the CC doesn't prevent this? Our suburban did this before and our Jeep Grand Cherokee also prevents too much acceleration from going down hill.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

This is normal cruise control behavior. My '06 Chevy Impala does the same thing when going downhill with the cruise control on and set. The vehicle isn't actually accelerating downhill, it is coasting. I usually also hit the brakes at some point. However if it is a situation where I am going down a hill and immediately into another hill, I will let the car decide what to do. Usually when ascending the next hill, the car will settle back into the set speed when it loses the momentum it gained from the previous hill.

Both of you guys have a broken cruise control. My cruise control works perfectly. I live in a valley with steep hills, up and down an interstate highway. When I go descend a steep hill with cruise set at 74 it might go to 75 but that's it.

You fellas need to get your cruise control repaired.
