1995 SL2
Default strong trannys

I just replaced my transmission in my 95 saturn sl2 last weekend. The differential pin came outta the first two. The first one was before I bought the car. The guy said it ejected going down the interstate. The second one was slowly comin out so I pulled the tranny and patched it up. It wasnt too bad yet. I had a buddy TIG weld a patch over the hole and I MIG welded the diff pin on both sides. The only reason I didnt just replace it is because I couldnt find a 5 spd Saturn transmision to save my life. The patch job worked for maybe 3 weeks, then it busted through again. I had no choice but to continue driving the car every day until I found a tranny. I put fluid in about once a week just to keep the gears a little lubed even though it came out just as fast as it went in. I drove it for about 2 1/2 months like this, all while my tranny is makin more and more noises all the time. lol. BUT, despite having basically no fluid, grinding, whining, popping, and slipping outta gear occasionally it never quit driving up and down the road on a daily basis. Saturns may have problems a lot but they wont stop workin for you. Anyways, when we took that tranny out we realized the the pin had busted both welds and was trying to come out again. The popping I was hearing was the pin hitting the clutch fork.
But that tranny is gone and its back to performing at a decent level now.
Just wanted to share my story and also ask if any one knows how much work it would take to put an ECOTECH out of a Cobalt SS in an SL2. Ive heard it can be done and I want to do it sometime in the future(way in the future). Let me know if you have any links or knowledge on that. Thanx.
