I guess some even slide forward, like mine. I don't recall my 2gen doing that. Convenient for people with stubby arms, I suppose.

I repaired the cracked lid in my wife's '95 SW2. its strong enough you can stand on it now. I was also lucky enough to have the broken latch to repair in my '96 when i first got it. I cut off the remaining "tabs" that hold it in the lid. I found some welding rod with a similar diameter of the tabs. took a small drill bit the same diameter of the welding rod and drilled straight through the latch were the tabs use to be. carfully inserted the welding rod (snug fit) and then cut it to fit. been working great for 5 years now and I dont have a freakout if it falls closed. Ill take pics of it when I get a free moment to dissassemble it. ... '96 SL2 My First Saturn 420,000+ miles. '95 SW2 Wife's Car

Thanks for the ideas. I found one in the JY for under $10 for my SC1.
If you get one from a JY, remember to get the screws and the clips they screw into from the donor car or you'll find out later you wish you had. ... Gone - 92 SL1, 96 SC2, 97 SC1 Current - 99 SC2 5 spd, 00 SC1 5 spd

Thanks for this thread.
My center armrest/console has cracked, and won't fasten down in the closed position. I'll have to check my local JY for a better version of this part, and possibly one with the nifty coin tray. ... 1995 Saturn SL1 • SOHC • 5 Speed

![]() I know its not pretty and the picture is kinda fuzzy, but this setup has survived almost a year with 2 kids under the age of 3 climbing around in the car all the time. I was kinda in a hurry when I did this and I'm sure I could have made it look better. And yes i know that its a Black arm rest on a tan compartment. With how hard it is to find all the parts you take what you can get. My shoulder needed the support of the armrest more than needing the colors to match. ... '96 SL2 My First Saturn 420,000+ miles. I finaly was able to take some pictures of the repairs I made to the gen 2 armrest I have. Sorry, some of the pictures are blury.
This is the latch that i drilled through and then pressed a welding rod into. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the repair that I made to the armrest itself using some aluminum flat stock and some pop rivets. ![]() ![]() Only some small bumps are noticeable on the outside of the armrest and you only notice them if you know they are there. ![]() ... I apologize for bumping an old thread, but this seemed like the appropriate place. I was able to get a armrest for my '02 SL1 but it didn't have the screws or any hardware. Any recommendations as to what I should use to attach it properly? There are thieves around here that break into cars just for change, I don't want anything remotely visible. I need to get a lock for the glove box next...but now I digress.

Thanks for the suggestion Skippy, I did that for a few days. I just went to Lowes and took a quick look in the automotive drawer while I was there. I picked up a package of #8 wide "speed nuts", item #881244. I also picked up matching black screws in the same drawer. I figured for $2.50 or so I'd see if it works. I pulled up with force and it didn't budge, it seems nice and secure. So far so good!

Broken Latch...
The plastic on the lid that enters into the base broke. If it was just the mounting portion,I could fix that. Any ideas on how to fix or make a new latch? I have keys to lock mine!!!
