Happy My first Saturn - 2002 SL

Hi all. I just bought this from the original owner and he only put 15,000 miles on it. It looks brand new inside and only has a few blemishes on the exterior. I replaced the original tires with Michelin Hydroedge.

I'm going to be leaving on a 3000 mile round trip from the Tallahassee area to New Hampshire in a few days.

This car has very few options. The only ones I can think of are the A/C and the single CD player. The only thing I would really like is cruise control. Any suggestions?

first saturn eh?!?!? Well Welcome!!!

first off keep up on the oil and oil changes! should be changed every 3k so might i suggest doing that first The saturns (tho not as bad with the '02) love to eat oil, so check that regularly.

ECTS is another big issue however again, the '02 seems to have all the air bubbles out so you should be good there.

Good luck with the saturn, and as long as you keep up on the maintenance you could be like a member named Luke how has 521k and 40+ mpg Happy Driving!

Air bubbles? The 2002s all had brass ECTSs, so no worries.

But just realize this, in your 3,000mile round trip you will be doing the equivalent of approx 1 year, 2 months, 1 week, 4 days, 1 hour, 9 hours and 36 miuntes of it's life so far. So just take it easy on the car, it might be a little bit of a shock.

i meant that the '02 model has gotten rid of most of the common issues such as the resin ECTS

Thanks.

The original owner had all the receipts for scheduled maintenance. It was due for oil and the 15K inspection when I got it so I took it to the Saturn dealership. Normally I don't go to dealers, but I wanted them check it out initially. I may not go there in the future for cost reasons.

I'm switching to this car from a 5.2L V8 4 X 4 half ton Dodge Ram. My gas mileage has tripled. Imagine if you woke up tomorrow and gas was selling for $1/gallon. That's what this is like for me!

In the case of the Saturn S-series, you can go to the dealer and pay dealer prices, or go somewhere else, and have them throw all kinds of parts at them becuase the cars are not common enough for most mechanics to easily diagnose simple problems. At least come here first. Some of us are mechanics, and the rest of us play mechanic on the 'net. And most novice mechanics that are willing to learn can do most of the maintenance to thse cars with ease.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy the Saturn. Adding cruise control would be somewhat of a pain in the butt, I just manage to live without it now...it's not really that bad.

Just take it easy on the Satty at first since it ain't used to heavy driving. Plus the easier you drive, the better MPG you get, LOL. I typically drive a little lead-footed so my MPG isn't as good as some peoples.

If you are nice to these cars they are typically nice back. The problem is with them being cheap and all, alot of people treat them like crap...like mine for example...but he's my baby and doing much better, although occasionally gets moody, but I guess he gets that from me, LOL.

Stay on top of the routine maintenance and the car will serve you well. Check your oil often.
