I usually shut mine off on my Ion. That is my poor mans solution to making them last longer. I know DRL's have their purpose, but I will only use them when I think it is appropriate. The difference with the Chevy DRL's burning out is that they aren't used for a turn signal. It's all about safety. I use my turn signals religiously. If they keep burning out it could cause an accident.

My mother's 2003 Ion 1 burnt out a turn signal and headlamp after two week's of ownership. BCM went bad at the same time.

my grandma always plugs her cell phone in her ion now that she has the charger, so if the cell phone thing happens, will the blinker blink fast?

ever notice how many 99-current honda odyssey's have the back third brakelight out? i see it all the time. you'd never think odyssey production was slow here.

For the cell phone it's number 03-08-42-009A which say to install a capacitor in the accessory outlet wiring

For the turn signal it's bulletin number 04-08-42-002 which say to install a harness kit

The NHTSA should read the TSB before publicating something wrong and always attacking Saturn
Good job prosys001. Saturn and GM have known about this problem for a year and a half now. It effects the 03's and early 04's. They are repairing the problem as Ions are brought in for general maintanence. If your service department hasn't said anything to you about it yet, just ask them the next time you are in.

Look at the numbers...I surely don't think that it justifies NHTSA getting involved!

What about the Envoy/Trailblazer's Tail Lights. I don't think I have ever seen one that didn't have at least one of its tail lights burned out.

Atleast we can now identify those who don't use their turn signals on a regular basis......

It's a shame that something as basic as a light has been overcomplicated by the high-tech junkies to become such a pain in the arse for owners.

The old system with a flasher worked just fine.

I had a '03 who's VIN # fell within the TSB's, but the bulbs have not burned out in 16 months/40000km's. However, the upper half or so of the plastic covering of the lights where the DRL's are has a fogged up look now all the time (ie. it's a whitish colour instead of clear like it used to be).

The bad wiring harness will make your bulbs burn out prematurely. I know because Saturn installed my new wiring harness for free and bulbs wear normally now. Also, in the first week of ownership on my 2003 Ion-2 , I had to replace the brake pads and brake drums which were bad. Saturn did this , also for free.
