Thumbs Up Some Saturn Dream Cars....

...from our like minded cousins at GMInsideNews.com:

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=49339

Saturn is "no doubt a key component of GM's success in the future".

I like the way these folks think! The only thing they are missing is a compact wagon about the size of my old SW2.

This looks oddly familliar.
Can we merge these threads and make them into a sticky or something?
I'm not ripping on you here, 100KSW2, there's no easy way to search for these prior to posting. I think this is the third time I've seen this exact GMI thread posted here.

Sorry about the duplicate post!

Before posting it I tried to do a simple forum search to see if it had already been posted. (I would have searched longer if I had noticed the date it was posted on GMInsideNews - a little over a month ago.)

I have not been around Saturnfans much lately due to other demands on my time - and I also gave away my SW2 a couple weeks ago.

I'd rather see an Astra wagon here than any of the cars on that list.

I miss my SW2 and it has only been 2 weeks since I gave it away!

Thumbs Down Re: Some Saturn Dream Cars....

It's a shame that automakers don't offer more wagon choices in the U.S. I guess they're more popular overseas. I think it's a bummer that Subaru no longer offers a Legacy wagon, except in Outback form.

Decent. Then I might buy one.

My father-in-law, a retired police officer (i.e. not rich), got a new 2007 Camry (his first car not from the old Big Three), and gave me his 2002 Buick Century.

It is a big change from driving my SW2, which had manual locks and windows.
The Century is like driving a sofa. I have trouble going around corners without making the tires squeal. Still, it had 12,600 miles vs. the 126,500 miles on my 1993 Saturn (one tenth the miles!). The Buick still smells like a new car, and has an extended warranty for a couple more years.

I wanted to at least pay my father-in-law the trade in price, but he insisted on making it a gift to me and his daughter (who does not drive).

I am not comfortable in accepting such a large gift that I did nothing to "earn", but my father-in-law is a great guy (and I thought so even before he gave me his car).

I am officially OLD man, I'm driving a Buick!

Actually, I was looking into getting a LeSabre in 2002 but decided not to because I (acurately) expected to get laid off. Now I am glad I did not replace the Saturn back then, the LeSabre is a bigger and heavier car than the Century, which already gets worse mileage than the SW2. It is not such a big deal since I have only been driving about 3500 miles per year for the past few years, compared with 20-25K miles a year when I got my SW2 in the early 1990s.

Yuck. The Legacy Wagon is classy. The Outback is the original faux SUV.
Crocodile Dundee was the perfect spokesperson for that tacky thing (I am on record for not liking cladding on older Pontiacs, so at least I am consistant).

I wouldn't call a Buick Grand National GNX an old man car. I bought my Buick when I was 20.

I liked the Century better than the Lucerne. Upgrading the tires and wheels should put a little life in the handling?

I'm planning to get new tires before next winter, mostly because the OEM tires are 5+ years old, but probably not new wheels.

The suspension setup is pretty soft on this car so it probably will get a moderate bit of better handling from grippier tires, but new wheels will probably not be worth it to me, especially since I am out of work.

I realize the GMI link is old, but just recently checked it out.

The Ridgeline fighter is nice, but I would have called it something other than Switch. If Nissan had not taken Titan for their full-sized truck, that would have been perfect.

I like the Astra notchback sedan best. I hope Delta II comes as close to that rendering as possible.
