Anyone having a knock or clunking noise from the front end when starting after a stop. Brought it to the dealer today and they could not find the problem(was not the link bushings). Thoughts on where to look.

Is it a pretty solid sounding clunk? They should make sure that the suspension control arm bushing bolts/nuts are TIGHT. There's a lot of load on that control arm when you accelerate.

They spent about two hours checking the torque on the front end and greasing the moving parts. Drove it home was no change still

If it makes the noise during a hard acceleration, will it make it again with hard braking?

It does it on hard or light acceleration , not at all on braking.

Is it coming from one side? From the center?

I get it when I have the wheel turned to the left and accelerate hard. It actually causes the steering column to jump. I also hear it sometimes when going over a bump only on the left front wheel. I figured I would have them look at it when I take it in for the rear recall.

Yeah I thought the same thing motor mounts but dealer said could not be. Odd thing we got lot of rain today and the noise has vanished. I have a idea of how to find the problem. I'll wait for a nice day when its dry and the noise is there and wet with a hose each front end part until the noise stops.

When it rains does it seem to go away? After you get the control arms changed give some feedback if it cured the problem. Thanks

My front end raises hell even at slow speed, like creeping through a parking lot looking for a space - hit one manhole cover and the front end rattles and shakes. I had it in once, and they put in sway bar bushings. It got better for a few weeks, but didn't last. I have a little over a year on the warranty, and I plan to get very well-known at the dealership.

Make sure the dealer Checks the calipers and the caliper pins. This seems to be an issue with this vehicle. My Have been replaced three times now. IIRC there is either a TSB or dealer repair procedure on using pins isolators. My 03 awd sounded like it had a 5 gallon pail with 3 pieces on 1/4" plate rattling around in it. When the dealer test drove it even they said it should not sound like that. After the repair all is fine and the the Vue is great. Be sure to ask.

Sounds like I could have the same thing with the control arms.
Good news that it fixed your problem I'm bringing mine in tomorrow, I'll see if they can look at the control arms, and hope that it fixes the knocking. |
