Default Speaker Size

Ok,

I was checking to see the size of the speakers in a 1992 SL becase I am planning on changing out all the component speakers. A website (www.sounddomain.com) states that the '92 has 7"speakers in both the doors and the rear deck. Is this correct? And it also gives speakers that would be good to fit in the tailgate/pillar..... whats this? I dont have any speakers in the tailgate/pillar? What is the pillar? Help!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

the speakers in the s-series saturns are in both the doors and the rear deck are oversized/euro 6 1/2" or 6 1/2"S" or 6 3/4" depending on where you look. regular 6 1/2" speakers are slightly too small, but can be adapted to fit.

Would 6x9's fit in the rear? Or would you have to cut to make them fit?

yes, you would have to modify the rear deck to fit 6X9's

Question

Side question: Do speakers in Oval shape (6x9) sound better than over-size speakers? (10" instead of stock 6 3/4")

You need modification on the deck to fit size other than 6 3/4 anyway, why not put in the biggest you can afford?

I never had to do anything to put 6 1/2 in the rear of any of our saturns. You can move them around so they fit put with 6X9 you would actually have to cut out some areas. I know most speaker companies know GM's size and make the 6 1/2 so that they will fit on GM vehicles.I dont think 6X9 are all that better but yet Ive never heard them alone without any subwoofers. So I guess I dont really know....

Default 6x9's

If you're going to get a sub/amp then screw the 6x9's. You'll get the added bass from that. I swapped the factory issue speakers with Infinity's, dropped right in, no cutting.

There are plenty of other alternatives that will slip right in.

6x9's definitely prodeuce a better bass response. I had a set of Boston Accoustics in my Accord for a while running off an amp with no sub, and it did sound as though there was a sub.. I haven't been able to pull that off with my rockford slightly higher quality 6.5" speakers in the saturn..

I got FREE 6.5" speakers when i bought my deck. The holes dont line up properly.. is there some sort of adapter ring i could get? i tried to make my own but it is nearly impossible because of the curves on the bottem of the back deck in my 97sc1
