Default size of speaker

This is a stupid question.

I am planning to replace the factory speakers.
But I am confused about the speaker size.

A --------B

C ------- D

"ABCD" are the position of mounting flanges. For a 6.5" speaker,
is 6.5" the distance between A&B or A&C?
Thanks

the weird thing is that when I check crutchfield.com, it shows 6 3/4" fit perfectly, the 6 1/2" one need some mods.
when checked at circuitcity.com, both fit.

so, your 6 1/2" ones fit well?

the sizes are all jacked up.

I put in Pioneer 6.5 which are "oversized"

So yes, 6.75 will probably fit better.

The size is roughly the diameter of the speaker, not the distance between mounting holes. In my 95, 6.5" speakers did not fit the stock holes, so they drilled new ones. I would either buy 6.75" or get 6.5" with adapters, if you want them to fit stock. Drilling new holes was no big deal for me, but it might make a difference if you live in a place more prone to rust (for the front door area).

the correct size is 'oversized' 6 1/2" or 6 3/4". some 6 1/2" speakers have a second set of holes to make them fit in a 6 3/4" opening but some don't. look on crutchfields size guide and they tell you.

6.5" Speakers with 4 mounting holes will fit without any problems.
