Default VTi $1,785 Option

I can't believe that the VTi is now $1,785. I remember when it was $1,395. I wonder why such a steep increase? I guess they have to find ways to get back the incentive monies

I know that the U.S. dollar is not worth as much as it was this Fall against the Euro. This is part of the reason, but I am sure there is more behind the increase than just the exchange rate. The VTI is made in Hungary; and perhaps local costs there have also increased. Even at the higher price, it is well worth it. My Vue runs superbly with the VTI; I have read elsewhere on this board that conventional automatic transmissions would not perform as well with the 2.2 liter 4 cylinder. (One of the reasons I ordered my Vue with the VTI.)

Any idea how much difference there is in gas mileage?

What is VTi? Is it the optional transmission that is called CVT in Canada if I recall the name correctly?

A $400 increase since 12/02 is a little steep. I think GM is looking to make more $$. What peeves me is that the CR_V has a 160 HP motor with a regular automatic and getts better gas mileage than VUE. I like the VTi but the price is steep. The 4 speed auto was like $800 on my L series. I don't feel that added cost is worth any benefits.

No difference in fuel economy between the VTi and the manual on the highway when comparing the FWD models. The VTi loses 1 mpg to the manual in the city.

One reason I bougfht a VUE among others. The VTi is suppose to be simpler, just the option is costly and continues to grow in cost.

Maybe if they offered the VTi in the Ion
Sedan (heard they would offer it in the
coupe) and the L series, the cost would
reduce due to more units being made.

As another poster said, they are the same thing. CVT (Constantly Variable Transmission) is the generic name, like "internal combustion" engine. VTi is the Saturn-specific name, like "Ecotec".

Or maybe they're just budgeting for future warranty work.

The real question now is this:
"Is Saturn pricing itself out of the marketplace"?

Look at the Sports Package on the LW300.
