98 to 99 swap

I'm going to look at another 99 SC2 tomorrow - that has a lunched auto transmission.

I have a good transmission in a 98 SC2 parts car.

That a direct swap? Looked at the swap guide, and still not sure....

Was hoping someone else would jump in (I have no experience). But it should be a straight swap.

You can keep the '99 auto PCM but that will keep the SES light on full time, with transmission codes. One person mentioned they could feel slight dips in power roughly where an auto trans would be shifting, but then it would pick right back up

Or you can move the PCM over with the trans, just check the options between the two cars.

Transmissions didn't really change much throughout the S series life cycle. Some gearing changes is all I can think of

Oh, and that reminds me, there is a few different things you do with the plugs depending on if you are using the auto or manual pcm

If they both are automatic and the same DOHC or SOHC transmission than it should be a direct no-issue swap. Going from MP7 to MP6 or MP6 to MP7 won't work at all; going from auto->manual requires a PCM swap for it to be totally happy (most report no issues other than CEL; others have my luck and get a slight hesitation when the PCM cuts timing to shift).

That was 2 hours of driving wasted.

While texting the seller I asked if the underbody was solid, and he said yes.

I suppose - it wasn' t liquid.

But it did have rust thru.

I suspect he knew - as my SO watched his face when I pulled the inspection mirror out of our trunk, walked over to his car - and checked forward of the driver's side rear wheel - and immediately found rust thru at the trailing arm mount. She said his face fell....

So 10 seconds into my inspection - I said " I'll pass".

Our 92 SC2 needs a new engine ( top end ) but the body is exceedingly clean. Even the paint ( white) is nice. The problem is - it' s an automatic transmission.

I have all the parts - so I probably will convert it to a manual.

So thank in advance for all the good info guys.

I did the swap, took me 14 hours as a first timer without a lift. Would probably be easier to drop the whole powertrain instead of the subframe and trans like I did.
