Default How to detect a failing clutch?

So, im considering either trading my current car or getting a second car that is manual. I have never owned a manual car, therefore i have no idea what a messed up clutch feels like exactly. So, say i was test driving a car thats manual and the seller wants to pull wool over my eyes and tell me its clutch has life left on it/has a new clutch but it really doesnt. How would i be able to tell how good a condition the clutch is? Is there any way to cover up a failing clutch?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

TAke it up a freeway grade in 5th under full throttle.

Or a steep driveway or road in too tall a gear( lug the motor).

It's called a test drive

I wouldn't let anyone test drive my stick car if they've never driven a manual before. Either bring along someone that can, or spend a few bucks on a ppi.

No, i do have experience with driving manual. Im not that great at it, and i do stall in 1st with certain cars, but i can do it, and do it without frying the clutch.
