Default Question from Moscow, Russia

Hi, everybody,
I've just bought used SL2 1992year.
What is japan or american analogue of this model (if it exists)? (like Ford Probe is Mazda MX6 or Opel Frontera is Isuzu model)
The problem is that it's not easy to buy spare parts for Saturn in Moscow (each part is needed to order from USA or Canada). But many parts for japan and other american cars are available on stocks in Moscow. I hope, that there are the same parts for theese cars.

Thanks,
Alexander.

Alex,

Saturn's not a GM clone (at least not yet), so you need Saturn parts.

If something used will help, Joey's the man.

But i assume that Twincam is japan vehicle, so some japan parts must fit to Saturn.

There were some vehicles shipped to Japan.

Possibly you may find some info by contacting Saturn through the website "talk to Saturn" area. Perhaps they can tell you more about the vehicle they were selling in Japan (pulling out now).

The US right hand drive SWP wagon was based on the Japanese version.

Nice hearing from you, Alex.

Nope, not Japanese at all. They sold a few Saturns in japan though. The Saturn is a unique american car that is not interchangeable with other american cars. That means that parts will be hard for you to get unless someone from the US sends them to you.

Nope, any Saturn SL vehicle is pure Saturn, not Japanese, single cam or twincam. I've never heard of any parts that are interchangeable with any other car. You'll have to get your parts from Saturn or, even better, try Joey (used parts are less expensive than brand new).

What parts are you looking for, anyway?

Russia? Wow. How did you get a Saturn in Russia?

Another good point that I think has been made. When I got my Saturn I was happy to know that my parts were not typical GM where they are interchangeable with Chevy or Pontiac, etc. So it makes me feel good that something even small like a window actuator is not interchangeable with a Cavaliers's blechh!! Enjoy your SL2, and have many years of fun and pleasure, that car is sure to be a good looker out there.

I know of one small thing that is interchangable. The Headlightbulb. The headlight bulb is the same as in a Caviler. That I do know. I am sorry I was just trying to make people laugh.

I get the impression that the poster assumes the Saturn is some sort of badge engineered car like the

Toyota Corrolla/Chevy Prism or Ford Probe/Mazda Mx-6

That's certainly not the case. Its one of the best parts about a Saturn, NOTHING is used on or designed for another car (at least with the S cars. Saturns were designed and BUILT all in the United States.

Alexander, the model number "SL2" designates that your 1992 Saturn has 2 overhead camshafts to operate the 4 valves per cylinder. This is also what "Twincam" means. Saturn has not produced cars under different names in other countries. The same cars sold in the US are the ones exported to the other countries like Japan.

You can buy used parts from Joey Cutrone at:

To Jon94SoLo2: When I was looking for a car, I wanted to buy a sport-looking car. And I saw a sale note about Saturn in one of moscow newspapers. I saw Saturn in Moscow once in my life 3 years ago, and it has liked me. So I bought it. It came from USA to Russia in jan. 1998

Wow! You know, I think I have seen a picture of your car Alex. At a dealership near me, I think they have a picture and a letter from the owner saying that they brought the car with them from the US when they moved to Russia for work. If I remember correctly, it was silver or gray colored.

Alex, welcome aboard! That is so cool that you have a Saturn in Moscow.

As everyone here has said, if you want parts for your car, Joey is your guy. This guy knows Saturns inside and out and will be able to get you anything you need.

How does she run? How many miles? What does everyone think of your car?

To saturnotaku:
How does she run? - Not bad, after traffic light most of other cars smell a smoke of my car <img src="http://64.77.2.166/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/Images/Happy.gif" border="0" align="middle">
How many miles? - 71000, but I don't know is it truth
What does everyone think of your car - My friends say "Wow !", but some of them sneer at that all parts and accesories will cost me too much expensive.
