Engine Cooling Fan and Temp Gauge
I just replaced the engine cooling fan in my '93 SL2. it wasn't kicking on at all, even when wired directly to the battery.
Testing it after installation, it would not kick in until the needle on the temp guage touched the red area near the "H." Is this normal?

Yes. If you would rather have it come on sooner, it is quite easy to make a manual fan switch to turn it on or off when you want to. Also, might be worth checking to see if your Coolant Temp Sensor is good. It should be the newer brass design.
