Does anyone know if this is a fluke thing or if its a problem that needs to be fixed?

Hi, this is my first post in this forum, I will explain my problem
2005 Saturn Ion 2 Sedan
Today I started to have problems with the ignition key, this can not turn off the car (key stuck at acc)

I got turn off the engine by pulling out the green cable from the ignition switch (see the video) is this safe?

But the strange thing is that the cylinder does not hold the key, so I can remove the key with the engine running, can it be broken? (see the video)

Youtube: youtu.be/0ZocxapGs6A

What do you recommend?
Change the switch
Change the cylinder
Both

Thanks in advance

Call the dealership, schedule your recall repair.

This.
In fact, GM has actually been pretty reasonable about this recall (eventually), even to the point of reimbursing people for towing and other expenses.
But don't worry about GM. The new switch costs them about $10, and takes about 15 minutes to replace.

with 1-2hr waiting time for them to get to your car.
I cant complain too much tho, they did do a great job with the service.
after hearing everyone have issues with their ions after the service kinda drove me away a little bit, but had to eventually.
its been almost 2 months since I had mine done, and no problems (other than my rear pass. brakes screaming at me to be changed lol)

2007 VUE 3.5L
Default Re: Key won't completely turn off stuck at acc

I futzed with this type of problem for about a year. I have an '07 VUE and found that after inserting the key, I put upward pressure on the key while turning (either starting or turning off), there is no binding and the key pulls right out without any drag. No money spent, just had to change my mindset while turning the key.
