Default What type/size bulbs for the front map lights?

I'm want to swap out the two front map lights (not the center one) with red bulbs since they don't friggin' wreck you night vision as bad as the standard white bulbs.

Any tips on removing the translucent plastic cover? I had most of it pryed out yesterday but didn't want to go all the way in fear of breaking something.

Thanks!

No, no former Navy man. I have a wife that likes to constantly turn the light on to find things on her side or read me the map and I just despise the "light pollution" from those darn lights.

I keep my dash lights turned down at night too. My night vision has definitly gotten worse over the past few years.

I had some red bulbs in the map lights on my former Saab 9-3 and it was just enough light to do things/read by w/o leaving a big white floating dot in my retinas.

Sorry for the somewhat obscure reference, on ships the Combat Information Center (CIC) has red lights to preserve night vision just as you mentioned. For my wife's night reading we try to remember a book light made for that so that the book gets lit but not a lot else does, still the spilled light does bounce around a little. Red book light?
