2003 ION-3 Quad Coupe
Default tech question: engine part identification

While under the car & doing my first oil change this morning, I was checking the engine from underneath. There's a part that I'm not sure what it is.

It's on the lower, right front of the engine (passenger side, rear engine compartment, from underneath). It's build into the engine, looks as it it's run internally off the timing chain. It has about a 1-3/4" pipe (looks like exhaust pipe) & I believe it runs over & into the exhaust manifold.

Any ideas of what this is? I'll take a pic since it's still on ramps & post later if the description is not good.

that's your water pump.looking straight up at it from the bottom you should see the drain bolt on the pump housing. it is run off the timing chain and there's a special tool to remove it without letting the chain fall into the front case.
