Short Ram Intake

I have a 1992 SL1 and was looking for either a cold air or short ram air intake. I have found one for $69 (american) but it says that this will fit my car as well as an SL2. Will parts that fit the SL2 fit the Sl1 as well or is it a waste of my time to pursue? Any other mod parts that will possibly fit both models would be nice too so if anybody has info please let me know. Thanks.

you have a TBI sohc.

it is not worth modding.

You could run 5 psi from a turbo and still be slower than a bolt on dohc.

get a DOHC 5spd car!

monkey racing USED to make an intake for the TBI, but I dont htink they are around anymore.

TBI? What does this mean? What is the approximate cost of putting a DOHC engine in my car and how ivolved is it?

That is how to swap a TBI sohc to a MPFI DOHC.

TBI=Throttle Body Injection

Basically you have 85 hampsters under the hood. Your car is slower than my lawnmower. And if you have an automatic, dont bother with any of this.

Indeed, everytime I think of a TBI, I think of a hampster wheel under the hood.

That 85hp isnt even wheel horsepower, its crank! So you really only have about 70 wheel horespower.

And I think the last car that had that little power was like the model T.

Yeah My 98 SC1 was slow as dirt. The CAI helped a little (made it tollerable). Traded it in and got my 02 SC2 its currently bone stock but im content for the moment.

I dont want to get rid of my 92 SL1 so if I have to live with it I will. The problem is I have already started to customize the car the way I want it. I have already put new audio equipment in it and I don't want to stop now. I have started getting all of my lumber together for trim panels and whatnot. If you want to see the wood go to www.hobbithouseinc.com or search hobbit house and look for Brazilian Lacewood. I have a paint picked out and everything. Anyways, getting rid of it is not an option however my girlfriend and I were looking at a SC2 with leather and all the fixings. I believe it was an anniversary edition. They have it at Saturn of Mississauga.

What he saidl. Saturns are slow as it is. A TBI 1.9L is going to be pretty embarrasing performance-wise.

You can use a throttle body adapter from an early-90's Cavalier or Grand Am 4-banger, and connect any normal Saturn intake on it.That's what the MonkeyRacing intakes used, IIRC.

I see those things at the junk yard all the time; perhaps I should grab some, if people are still asking about this...
