Default third light problems

when my headlights are on the third brake light stays on, it still will go brighter when I hit the brakes, it acts just like the tail lights..

Welcome to the boards Tom. Is this something new or has it always been that way. If you are the only owner it might be a new problem. If not it might be someone elses handiwork. What year and model?

Yes, I'm the original owner, and it has never been in a crash...I checked the wiring and everything looks brand new.I was hoping to find a spot where a connection was hitting against the tailight.....Another thing I'm not sure that it hasn't always been this way...Although I think someone might have told me.....I do know that it has to be a connection problem somewhere...
thanks for getting back to me I had kind of given up.......
The car is a 96 sl2 with about 75,00 miles. It was my wife's and now my daughter's. A cop pulled her over and told her.... I had only reall driven it when she needed gas....

chances are you have a bad ground or an internally shorted bulb. i bet one of the blubs go out when you hit the brakes, replace the bulb, or pull the bulbs out one by one until the brake light goes out, then replace that bulb. if all the bulbs check out fine, use a multimeter to check the ground.
