Default Have you been to Spring Hill?

Pardon me if this has been asked before, but I'm new here. I went to Spring Hill, with my parents (we happened to be on a family trip together) in 1998 or thereabouts. My 1996 SL1 wasn't along--I was riding in my parents' car--but we all had a good time...

To me, it's a shame that some Saturns are now made elsewhere...there was something magical about Spring Hill...I still get a kick out of the frontspiece of it in my owner's manual.

I haven't been to a Homecoming--I was tempted by the second one, but didn't get around to it.

Now that I live in TN, I'm sure I'll make it over there sometime.

I was about to mention that...

There is still time to register for the 6th Annual SPC Summer Rally. We will be given a private plant tour, not to mention lunch.

If you plan on coming, please register before Wed., so that you do not have to pay the $10 surcharge for registering at the event.

I haven't been there, but I would love to go. My best friend and I have been planning a road trip there for about the past year, but we haven't made it there because of one thing or another. If I have the extra money this summer I'd like to take a trip there.

BTW, welcome to the boards Harrymcc! I see you are a fellow '96 SL1 owner!

Like eRic 96sc2, I've been 3 times. The two Homecomings and a middle trip to see the Visitor's Center when it opened.

Nope, I'm a westerner, born and raised. I have no desire to go east of the Rockies anymore.

The rockies are a little to my west.. but I'm in Denver, so since I'm on the front range it counts as a westerner right?

But back on topic. I really want to head to Spring Hill. I was thinking about taking a trip down there while I was in Ohio last month, but I was so busy with traveling all over the east coast that I didn't have time.

2008 Astra XR

<------ see avatar.

My little brother and I were on a fast trip down to Florida and back (round trip in about 4 days!) last summer. Driving through Nashville I realized that the Saturn plant was around there somewhere. Of course, my little brother wasn't excited about going there (Mitsubishi driver ) but since I was driving...we were going.

It took a little while to figure out were to go from Nashville, but after looking at the map and following the signs it was pretty simple. I love the fact that Saturn has its own freeway. We only went to the welcome center and looked around really quick. Maybe its because it was a weekday, but the place seemed pretty dead. My favorite was seeing the actual polymer "beads" that are used to make the panels. Unfortunately, our time was limited so we had to get back on the road as soon as we could.

I'd definitely like to go down there again for the next homecoming and see more of the place.

I went to the '94 Homecoming and got the plant tour.
That was amazing! It was so cool getting to watch Saturns being built. The workers constantly waved at us as the tour groups went by the assembly lines. There were "thank you" signs up along the lines, too. Some people in the group got to talk with some of the workers that were on break.
The bad part was I wasn't able to take my SL2 on the trip since I was with the wife and two young'uns on a long vacation (no room for all the luggage, et. al. in the trunk).

2001 SC2

on a previous thread, I had mentioned that my husband and I hit Spring Hill when they were just starting the Vue (we could only see the frame). We were amazed at how clean the assembly plant was and the cars being carried above us. One cool thing is when they put the dash in, they put it in through the front before the windshield is put in! We didn't see a cart bash in the door as an example of the strong panels, but our tour guide did jump on it and nothing was there but his dusty footprints.
Just replaced original set of tires at 48k not too shabby

I have transported many of a juvenile deliquent to a level 2 group home in the city of Spring Hill, but I have never got a chance to tour the Saturn plant.

Like a trout... I have the urge to go back home....sort of. I have never been to Spring Hill, would love the chance to see the plant.... If I could... take the Ol' lady back to see her birthplace. This summer I'll be out that way, but don;t know if I will have the chance to see Spring Hill. I guess now I have an excuse to go see my Aunt in TN.

No, but I've been in the Wilmington Plant more times than you can shake a stick at.
