Default Any opinions on the Kumho Solus KR21 Tires?

Now that I'm on the end of my second set of Bridgestone's (only got about 26/k miles out of each set), I need to get new tires, so does anyone have any opinions on the Kumho Solus KR21?

Thanks for any info!
Tom

I have them on my VUE. I replaced a set of well-worn Michelin Pilot LTX Sports with them... and truth be told, I think I like them better (at less than half the cost of the Michelins to boot).

They are rather quiet, hold the road well, seem to do better in rain, and are fairly good in the "snow" that we get in the DC metro area.

I don't think I'll have my VUE long enough to put another set of tires on it, but I'd do them all over in a heartbeat.

I know these are more "performance" oriented tires but if you go with a 215 or 225 the Kumho Ecsta ASX's have been very good affordable tires. They are about $2 more/tire (tire rack) great in the dry and rain, and decent enough on Michigan snow and will make your 250hp VUE a little more fun to drive. I have had them on for about 30,000 miles and with regular rotation they are still pretty viable. They are also pretty quiet which is surprising for a performance tire.

I had em on my Vue. They last for ever & are very quiet...but...on ice & snow they suck. The hard rubber compound makes stopping on ice very poor.

I replaced the Dulers with Solus KR21 on my 2006 (Vue 35,000). What a major difference in ride and noise. I purchased them at my local Tire Discounters Store. Free Nitrogen fill, Free lifetime rotation, Free front lineament. total about $435.00 out the door.

I ordered them from Tirerack.com for $384 shipped and my installer will put them on for $25 total, so total cost $409.

Thanks for everyone's opinions!

I just ordered a set of 4 yesterday. They are now running $418 for a set including shipping at tirerack. I don't know how you got someone to mount and balance these for you for $6.25 per tire, but it's going to run me $30 per tire!!! I guess that's one of the bennies of living in NJ, you get overcharged for everything.

I got a set of Kumhos earlier this month. Paid about $113 a piece with my discount. My Deulers didn't last past 43k miles.

My personal list of capable tire companies from which I will purchase tires is small:
Michelin
Continental
Goodyear
Bridgestone/Firestone

Much longer is the list of brands that will never be on a car of mine.
Cost should not be a primary factor when purchasing tires, imho.

Before slighting Kumho, take a look at their ratings on tirerack, and take a look at some other reviews.

I bought Cooper Lifesavers based on recommendations here in this forum. I've only gotten 25,000 miles out of them and they're shot(even wear confirmed)!! The guy I bought them from is checking to see what they'll do for me, but if they won't pro-rate them on another set, I'll be trying the Kuhmo's. Tirerack has three different grades. I'm assuming we're talking the best of the three, right?

TireRack ratings are next to useless, imho. If you believe them, you would be inclined to believe that some tires can excel at everything with no tradeoffs, while others don't do anything well. That's simply not the case. I see those ratings as little more than a general indication of whether people liked their tires or not. If they did, it may well be because the tires were cheap and not because they perform remarkably well.

I've so far run the stock Bridgestones, Cooper LifeLiners, and now Toyos. The Toyos are amazing. I am yet to drive them in winter weather, but since I drive so infrequently in the snow, I don't really think it will matter. The Toyos are very quiet, amazing in the rain, and grip well. My only complaint is the soft sidewall, but that is a tradeoff for a good ride. I still take turns well though despite the new body roll. I haven't compared it to any Michelins, or Hankooks, or Kumhos; but I am satisfied with this tire and can't imagine purchasing a different tire. Check out treadepot.com for a good deal on them too!

At the recommendation of the guy who works on my vehicles, I put Toyo's on my wife's Taurus. They are SO NOISY they are worse than the worst snow tires I've ever had on a vehicle as far as noise is concerned. To my wife's displeasure, they are wearing like iron. The guy who sold me the Coopers says the big three tire manufacturers, Michelin, Goodrich and Goodyear don't want to know you once you walk out the door. It's basically up to the dealer to do what he wants.

For my Ion I'll be needing to replace my OE Goodyear Comfortreds this year. I'm tossed between these Kumho's and the Yokohama AVID TRZ. very close in price between the two. A girl at work has the Yoko's on her CR-V and says they are great in snow. Don't know if its the CR-V itself that is great in snow anyway or the tires. both have very good ratings and comments on tirerack.
