Default Changing ECTS

Alright, I am in the process of changing my ECTS..

I let the car cool down all the way... Located it easy enough (the one with two wires)

I unplugged the wires

When I went to pull the sensor out... coolant shot out at me from behind it.

Did I forget to do something? If I did and it caused this to happen... how do I go about correcting it?

There's supposed to be coolant behind it unless you drain it and where's the fun in that? You are supposed to just switch it real fast and lose a little coolant. If you let it run down, you'll lose a little less than a quart of coolant.

There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action.

Did you leave the reservoir cap ON? It's best to leave it on, so there's no way for air to come in, allowing coolant to drain from the hole. Otherwise, perhaps you just didn't let the engine get completely cold.

Don't agonize over it. It's a one-off repair; the brass sensor should last the life of the car. Next time the engine is cold, remove the reservoir cap, take a look at how much coolant you lost, top it off and move on.

I'm guessing either the coolant cap was left on and thus some pressure was left in the system, or it was left off, allowing air to enter the system more quickly & coolant to leave more quickly. Supposed to remove & re-install the coolant reservoir cap.

Best idea yet. To clarify, remove and re-install the cap BEFORE loosening the sensor. This equalizes the pressure, but doesn't allow air replacement.

Fah, water (or a 50/50 mix, perhaps) under the bridge....
