Default Front Brake Caliper Bolt specs

I was replacing a wheel bearing on my SL and I went to put it back together and for some strange reason the 2 large black bolts that attach the entire caliper assembly to the wheel assembly are lost!

Does anyone have specs for these bolts so I can go and find replacements without taking the other wheel off to get the other bolts out for comparison?

Dont know the specs, but you could get a handful of caliper bolts from the local pick-and-pull for very few $$$$$$.

Get a few, clean the threads, and zap them in...

Sadly you have to bum a ride there, though......

They are "wicked tough", grade 10.9 at least. Check out the markings on the heads of the other ones to get an idea.

Are we talking about the slide bolts or the bracket bolts?

He needs the 18mm bolts that attach the caliper bracket to the knuckle assembly.

I'd just hit up a local junkyard. They probably wont even charge you for them.

Yeah,

I am looking for the 18mm bolt that attaches the caliper bracket to the knuckle assembly.

I asked Auto Zone and they were of no help. I couldn't make it to the junk yard prior to them closing today unfortunately and I knew that before I left the original post because of my job.

I need the bolt tonight becasue I am leaving town tomorrow and my car is sitting on jack stands taking up my entire garage. Neeedless to say my wife will be pissed if I leave it there for the next 6 days while I am gone. I guess I can throw the wheel on and leave the caliper off and roll it into the driveway but don't want to if i can avoid it.

I think I'll take the other bolts off and take them somewhere to compare and get the same ones.

You might be able to get the same size but, you also need the same strength. That's going to be hard to get at a hardware store. As someone on here is fond of saying. If your car doesn't go, you call a wrecker but, if your car doesn't stop, you call an ambulance.

The thread is the same as the bolts that hold the sway bar to the subframe.

Naturally, you need all those sway bar bolts to say where they belong, but they should be easy to pull and bring to a store.

The big auto parts stores sometimes have hardware and perhaps harder grades than home depot.

I would not be able to sleep at nights on a 6 day business trip knowing my signifigant other was driving a "new repair" on something this vital. I like to make the "shakedown cruise" myself.

Your profile doesn't say where you are. I have a huge shopping bag full of saturn nuts and bolts and clips and plasti-rivets. Never leave the junkyard with empty pockets. There are probably others like me. Saturn parts underground FTW!
