Default Chime won't turn off

The key is out of the ignition, the lights are off,the car is off, but the chime will not turn off as long as the drivers side door is open. Any ideas? It never used to do this before.

It could be that the spring in the lock cylinder is getting weaker and so it thinks the key is still in the ignition. Sometimes wiggling the key a bit as you take it out will jar things enough to get the chime off, or it may just be worn.

Read through this previous post:

Believe your owner's manual has a section on what the problem may be based on the sounds repetitions.

I'm sure others will chime in soon.

My situations is a little different. It doesn't stay on when the car is running. It sounds like the chime when I leave the key in or turn the headlights on when I open the door.

Your ignition cylinder is broken, just like everybody else's. Most people don't fix it. I never did.

My car does the same thing. I can get it to stop by pushing on the metallic area where the key goes into the ignition, which allows it to pop back out.

Cool Re: Chime won't turn off

My 93 SW1 does the same thing. The shoulder strap of the seat belt will not travel foward untill I open the door. Nothing I have tried seems to work. I tried to get the lock out but never did. Next time I will get a bigger hammer.

Did you try the fix in the How-to-library?

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21560

It's free. If it works for you, please let others know via this thread.
