Default Can/Should I Do This PSP Mod?

I was thinking about using the Auxilary port in teh back of most aftermarket cd players to hook my Sony PSP up to. I would make a little "docking" station for the PSP while its hooked up to the head unit. The purpose would be to have a "dvd" player, mp3 player, and photo viewer all right there in my dash! The best part is, it can play games and its portable! Can I use the AUX port (or another one) to do this? If i can, what are your opinions on this mod?

Why don't you just plug your PSP into the cigarette lighter. R U trying to pull the mp3 files off the psp onto the HU, If so I don't think its possible - two completely different electronic systems that won't understand each other enough to do a file transfer.
You could always get a HU that plays mp3 files (unless you already have one)

Yeah and don't leave it in the car- its an easy steal if they break the window.

No, I'm using the PSP as a portable MP3 player and Movie Player...I want the sound to come out of the car speakers. I more than know that you cant rip files to and from a Head Unit. And I DEF wouldnt leave it in the car!

The aux port on you OEM head unit is typically for a cd changer. What kind of cable are you planning to use to hook this up?

The only Head Unit that supports MP3 link up is by the higher end Alpine decks. and even then it only supports Ipod. The only way for you to get your PSP's sound to go through on an AUX port (which only comes on a lot of higher end \ newer decks) you'll have to get a 3.5mm headphone jack to RCA cable to do it. They have them for about 25-30 bucks at best buy. The sound won't be the greatest, but it'll do what you want it to do..... but honestly... not really worth it.

so basically id be shelling out 300 bucks for the Head Unit and 40 for the cable needed. I guess I'd be better off buying that JVC head unit with the 4 inch screen.

hold up...

What kind of CD player do you have?
I know my CD-player has an Aux input and it's simply for audio input. You switch the CD player to 'AUX' and any sound signals coming into the Aux port will be played through the speakers.
It is VERY simple to do. I don't know much about the PSP but if they have a headphone connector or something you could go to radioshack and get a stereo headphone connector that splits into two RCA cables.

That's all you would need! Anything that would normally play out of your PSP will now play through your car stereo speakers.

I don't quite understand why you would want to use your psp as a mp3 player. doesn't it only hold like 10 song without a memory card which sells for a 50-100 bucks?

off subject, but i made a headphone jack in the mount for my stereo, so i just plug in a headphone cord to my ipod and i got music thru my car stereo . just do that, that way you can change between either your psp or another device that has a 1/8" audio jack.

A lot of the cheaper headunits put an aux in port on the front. Typically Aiwa. Mine has several aux inputs cabled from the back of the sled. One of which is and aux in for a mic. As my car does not have an am/fm radio, I picked up a portable one that a jogger would use and attempted to connect it in. The sound quality was fairly poor though so it has since been removed.

And to the user who said my PSP can only hold 10 songs, I put in a one gig stick, so thats more mp3's than i can put on a standard cd. I have 6 cd's and 2 skate videos aprox 30minutes long each on a memory stick smaller than my pinky....technology!!! .... ...
