Roll Eyes Hello, Thank-you and Good Bye to Saturn #3

Hello All,

1st off let me tell you that I have been working too much lately, 7 days a week 10 hours a day for the last few months. We have only one shot to launch this new truck correctly. As you all know the not so fair bum rap GM has been getting in the press. So if I ramble on or mis-spell forgive me, I'm tired.

So trying to keep this short, my wife and I own 2 Saturns, a VUE and a 2001 SC2. Much to my surprise my daughter and her husband bought a 2002 SL1 with 8,000 miles on it. I was so proud of it! It is real hard for me, as I am NOT a sales man or a GM car pusher to convince my kid's husbands to buy a GM car. I just don't think that forceing a person to drive a car they are not happy with, but bought just because dad works for GM is a good thing. So I was surprised that my kids husband went for a Saturn, he is a loyal Dodge guy. It was kind of cute seeing the 3 Saturns lined up with the 3 Chevys in my driveway. That car was flawless and my kid loved it! All was good!

This morning at 6:15 a.m. (remember I work nights and get home at 1:30) came the phone call that all of us parents dread. It was the police, an elderly gentlmen (73 years old) turned if front of my daughter and her Saturn. She may have been going over 50 mph, there is no skid marks, she never had time to hit the brakes. The only good thing was the my Grand daughter was not in the car, she was just dropped off at the sitters. The SL should be a total loss, I have not seen it yet as it was more or less pushed and swept up with a broom on to a flat bed truck.

My daughter, well she DID NOT have even a scratch! The car performed well in the wreck. She was able to kick the driver's door open and get out. She cried all day today until I went to work over a car she owned for only 2 weeks. Now I fear the fight will be on with the insurance companies. Oddly she had not yet sold her ever trusty 1990 Chevy Lumina. And of course Illinois is a mandatory insurance state but NOBODY ever seems to turn in the wreck. As of 7:oo p.m. the ol'timer has yet to turn in his claim to get her car paid for.

I guess the Policemen she was sitting in got a good laugh out of me and my wife as we pulled up in the VUE to get my kid. His comment "Those Saturns they serve you well, don't they! Be happy you are walking away from the wreck. People with bigger cars and SUV's have not walked away from less of a wreck."

Thank-you Saturn for the safe car,
Roger

I have a good feeling that they will be replacing that 2 week old Saturn with yet another one. Nothing like walking away from a horrible crash to convince you that your purchase was the right choice!

I'm glad to hear your daughter is alright, and that her Saturn served her well, even for the short time she had it!

Sorry to hear about the pending aggrivation of dealing with insurance companies and I'm Very glad to hear your daughter is OK. Give her a hug for all us other Dads that get shivers when we read your post.

The car can be replaced. While losing a car can cause some temporary financial stress (we lost one to hurricane Hugo), in the big picture, when you consider all the money people earn and all the things they buy over a life time, a car is fairly insignificant.

Again, 'glad to hear your daughter is OK.

So glad to hear your daughter is okay. Another reason why some form of the S-series should have continued on. The car was designed by engineers who cared about people and the product they were building. It only needed some loving modifications, which it was getting. American parts, american made, and great gas mileage. I recently saw an ad for the tiny aveo. They were bragging about it getting 35 MPH. lol. I get 40+ on the highway with my SW2 with a 5 speed. Wonder how the aveo would have done in that accident.

Thank God (and saturn) that your daughter is in fine health after the crash

My girlfriend rolled her 2001 SC2 about a year ago, and walked away from the accident before the EMT's showed up. I wish the S series were still alive today...
