Default Dealer Required to Install Armrest?

I just got off the phone with my dealer's parts department. I wanted to get an center armrest installed in my ION-2 sedan. They quoted me a price over $10 more than what Saturnaccessories.com charges, plus they said that I would have to make an appointment to have it installed, as it can only be installed by them.

I think they might be full of s***. Why would Saturnaccessories.com (which I believe is a parts department of a dealership in Atlanta) sell this same part, if it was required to be installed by the dealer. Is this something that I can install myself? I hope to get some quick answers, as I would like to take advantage of SA.com's free shipping offer, which ends tomorrow.

Profit. Profit. Profit. That's why.

You could save a ton if you surfed eBay. Not that many ION accessories, but you never know. SA is charging $99 for a center armrest console???

The G1 S-series console could be had on eBay for less than half of that!

Arnel, I haven't bought it yet. My local dealer wanted $98 for it, plus they said they had to make the appointment because I couldn't install it myself. SA.com wants $89 for it, plus free shipping if it's purchased by tomorrow.

What's involved in installing an ION armrest?

I install they all the time. It takes no time at all. You have to undo the parking brake boot and remove it (it slides off easily), pull up the top of the console around the storage tray, it all pops off. Then you have to snap in 2 little socket things where the screws go into, and then you set the console down onto the base, screw it in, install the new brake lever boot they provide you, and then you are done. It will take 10 mins, max... I can do one in about 3 -4 now during a delivery at work.
Don't buy their BS, buy it offline and install it yourself.

I bought a center console for my friend's 1997 SC2 for $48 from someone on this site. It was SOOO simple to install, it was simply unscrewing two screws (maybe 1), putting the console in place, then putting the screws back in. But this was for an SC2, so I don't know how it is with an ION. Anyways, OhioVueBoy made it sound very easy, so IONRyan, I think you should save yourself the 10 bucks and buy it from SaturnAccessories. Good luck with your new ION!!

The console for my SC2 was $40 from Saturn of Olympia, since they quoted me the wrong price and didn't realize until after I bought it.
Installed it at home myself, even I could handle it.

The acessories usually have instructions. All the Saturn accessories I bought came with directions. You also don't pay sales tax if you buy out of state. If you call the saturnaccessories.com # they can tell you if instructions are inside. They are great and the shipping take like 3 days.

Maybe it has something to do with the lock, and having to fit it to your key.

There is no lock on the ION console. It really is very simple to put on. Also, instructions are included, and they seem to be very detailed for the console.
