Default Legal to drive without panels?

Silly question and I don't plan on doing it but would it be legal to take off all the side panels and bumper covers and drive the car as is? (Except door panels, hood, and trunk) seems like it would save a bit of weight but would lose a lot to aerodynamics. Silly thought but it was what came to mind today.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Uh, no fenders either? No fenders, then your throwing crap off your tires into traffic- seems like a ticket in the making...

To save weight- why not loose a hundred pounds from your gut, if needed?
