Default Automatic Range Switch, different!?

I pulled the Automatic Range Switch off the transmission today, and compared it with the 1995, not only is mount different where it goes on to the transmission for the gear selector, but the pins are different too!

I checked, the transmission IS an MP7, the car I took it from was manufactured 11/92, and my car was made 6/95.

I compared it with the 1995, and the VB and BUP connections are reversed.

COULD IT BE THAT SIMPLE???

it goes like

1993:
BUP
VB
B03
B02
B01
B00

1995:
VB
BUP
B03
B02
B01
B00

Ranges switch 91-94 are the same and 94-02 are the same. Design changed in the middle of 94. VIN RZ141471 is 91-94 range break point. Can they be swapped and will the later style mount on your transmission? Or, the pins could be swapped in the plug.

Maybe someone has already addressed this. I doubt if you are the first person to run into this.

It plugs in yeah, but where it clips on the transmission is different.I switched the wires around, but it made no difference what-so-ever, it still works very poorly, slips, then totally dumps the gears and gives a check engine, this transmission is junk.

It is a possibility that its bad solenoids. The solenoids are supposed to be the same from 93 to at least 01. If it sat with water in it then it will have problems. You can test the fluid for water yourself. heat a skillet on the stove until a single drop of tap water dances in the surface. the put 1 drop of your ATF into the hot skillet. If it spread out and smokes there is no water and if it sizzles and dances there is water.

To get a compatible range switch is going to require a late 94 or later transmission. Looks like a small hole in the swap guides....
