Solar,

Very sweet Astra! I especially like the twin sunroof and the fact your Astra puts out 200 hp. An engine we should have here in the States.

If anyone from GM is reading this thread, we want this engine! Yes, I am speaking on behalf of every person in the U.S. The wink is for those readers who actually take the aforementioned comment seriously! More horsepower and decent fuel economy.

Look out VW GTI!

2004 ION-2 Sedan
Thumbs Down Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

I do NOT like this car!!!!!!!!!!!! I think they made a big mistake. Ex-wife and I have owned 2 Sl's and 2 ION's.

Got great service from the SL's 170,000 and 190,000 miles. ION seems to be holding up well.

I bought Saturn because they were made in the USA and they were almost mid sized for compact price. The Astra does not offer either.

It's not better on gas, it's more expensive...........THEY LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they get a lot of younger people interested in this car. I have no idea if they can get younger people to purchase, and I don't really care.

My next car will probably be a Toyota or Honda. GM (and Ford) are CLUELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if you got that much mileage out of your SL's, and your ION is a 2004, why are you even worrying about Saturn's 2008 offerings? Won't it be several more years till your ION needs to be replaced?

Plus, while it is true that the baseline Astra costs about $4k more than a baseline Ion, the list of features on those two cars can't even compare to one another. More importantly though is once you start adding features, the vast majority of IONs I've seen MSRP between $16-19k (mine was $18k), and the Astras between $17-20k. The argument can't really be made that this difference puts the car in a new price bracket. (I'm sorry to say that I didn't become interested in Saturns until '03, so I'm not familiar with how much the S series sold for)

And while I do certainly understand the desire to have an American built car (my father buys only American, my uncle worked for GM 25 years), GM is already talking about moving production to the US for '09 or '10. So if you wanted to say the '08 Astra is a mistake, yeah, ok, I could understand that. But saying that the second best selling car in Europe has no redeeming qualities, well, that just looks silly no matter how many exclamation points you use.

From 2004 the model Astra in Greece has taken the 3rd palve in sales.

Now with the 16 turbo engine it really rocks

The Astra is much more spacious than the S-Series was (and the S was never close to a midsize car).

The ION isn't really better on gas than the S-Series (not really worse but not better either).

Chevy offers the Cobalt which is the mechanical twin of your ION. Plus, Pontiac offers the Vibe...twin to the Toyota Matrix.

Your complaint about this car is that it's not domestic - yet you are willing to go buy a Japanese car? Also you don't like the price, but similar Hondas and Toyotas are more expensive.

Enjoy the poor customer service you'll get from the Toyota or Honda dealer, they'll never match what you're used to from Saturn.

You're not making much sense, sorry...

I dig it! I bought one a week ago. What a fantastic driving experience! I never dreamed I could own a car that is this much fun to drive. I bought an 08, Twilight Blue, 3Dr XR, Automatic. What a cute, peppy little car. Easy on gas. This one will be cheap to own.
