Default 2004 Saturn Vue steering wheel spoke cover removal

I would like to remove and repaint the light gray plastic steering wheel spoke cover that is partially under the air bag cover. Can it be removed without removing the air bag or not. Please advise.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Default 2004 Saturn Vue steering wheel spoke cover removal

The answer to my previous post is no. The steering wheel spoke cover cannot be removed without removing the air bag. So here was my procedure to do that. Mine is a 3 spoke steering wheel.
1. Remove battery ground cable. Optional: remove fuse also.
2. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Remove upper one first because it snaps into the lower one. Remove 3 screws in lower cover, release tilt steering wheel lever and remove lower cover.
3. Locate 3 holes on backside of steering wheel hub, insert approx. 1/4 " wide flat screwdriver into one hole at a time and turn approx. 1/8 turn to release spring lock. When all 3 are released, gently pull air bag assy. straight out and unplug 3 wires. Store air bag face up out of the way.
4. Remove 2 screws holding steering wheel sprocket cover. Gently pull cover straight out to release 3 other prongs.
5. Remove switch assy. from cover being "very careful" to observe the location of small pieces that fall out.
6. Repair or replace sprocket cover.
7. Reassemble in reverse order. Air bag assy. will just snap into place when gently pushed straight in.
