Default Axle seal LH side PITA

dumbie me replaced used tranny without replacing seals when out


So I have the 3rd seal on order for Monday.... I see in other posts to take the metal cage off outside then drive it in.


How hard does cage come off the new one?

Well I give up 3rd seal down , put tire back on with axle out for moving out of way in garage.

Anybody have the true saturn part #'s for the seal kit ?

I've never tried it in the car. The two times I did this, I tried a variety of different plumbing parts and stuff I had around to do it. Eventually the cage popped off and I could drive it in with a flat part in my Harbor Freight seal driver kit.

Michigander, I don't know what all of the difficulties are that you have encountered; but I do know some of them. Read down this recent thread for some comments on your task.

IIRC during my second effort with the aftermarket seal, the rock cover popped off and I put it back on after driving the seal.

Make sure that you have a proper seal driver or a lot of luck & persistence to complete this job.
