Question Steering Kinda Funky

car info: 95 sl1 manual

Background: last summer my engine cradle completely rusted to pieces and had to get a tow. replaced the sub frame later that summer and it was pulling to the right hard. Got and alignment and it seemed to be fixed.

Problem: Ever since I got my sub frame changed and the alignment, the steering doesn't feel as tight as it used to. But not so much that it takes a little movement to start turning the tires but more of an unsteady feeling. The steering kinda shakes at high speeds. Also I feel like turning to the left is harder than turning to the right.

I'm not sure if any of you have had this issue before but its really starting to bug me. its not so much a severe issue but if there is a fix I'd love to know.

Thanks in advance

Did you align the subframe when you bolted it up? I would suspect suspension as much as steering, and be checking tires, bushings, control arms, tie rods, etc.

I was unaware there was any way of aligning the sub frame. I just bolted it up. the lower passenger control arm ball joint was bad on the replacement subframe so the whole control arm was replaced. Could you let me know how you would test these items (tires, bushings, control arms, tie rods, etc.)

There is a hole in the subframe, I believe the front passenger side, that is used to align the subframe. If that's off, everything else likely would be too, which would make the car steer & handle a bit off. However, I would hope that an alignment shop would notice if this was an issue.

I forgot to mention that I have started to notice some front end noise. I can't quite figure out where it's coming from and it is completely random. turning or straight, fast or slow, doesnt affect the noise. It sounds almost like a slight clunking sound. It will randomly go away and reappear usually after it sits in the parking lot. I'm wondering if this has something to do with my steering issues.

I still haven't checked that subframe alignment. It's been to cold here and there is another snow storm coming in. So much for spring
