Default Cylinder Head Ticking

last night when I came to a stop at a red light, the head starting ticking. This morning I checked the oil it was almost full and looked fairly clean.

Would it be better to buy a rebuilt dohc head ($350), timming chain set , and a dohc pcm (junkyard pulls) and swap out the sohc head or swap my 94' dohc engine etc. in to the 96' sohc body? I easily got over $1200 invested, more parts then labor in the 96'.

Maybe I should just drop a jy dohc engine in? (450.00)

I kinda got a sentimental feeling for the 96'.
PO's idea of maintenance was, If it anit broke don't fix it.

What would be the best option? I'm thinking a newer sl2 for about 1500-2000 or should I just invest enough to get rollin again.

I original brought my 94 for a gas saver, vs my truck. But now i don't wanna give up on my 96' lil turd.

Might be a bit easier and cheaper to find out what is causing the noise first. You may not have to do something as drastic as replacing the cylinder head.
