1997 Saturn SC2, black gold, wings west lip kit (with custom cargrills mesh), dropzone coilovers, sylvania silverstar headlights,OBX racing muffler, and the cleanest interior you have ever seen
It's lowered about 2 inches front and back right now, but coilovers are completely adjustable. Around 110,000 miles, but runs great. Automatic with performance mode. Cruise control works great. Full size spare tire. Jensen CD player with aftermarket speakers (sound great). Located in Ottumwa, Iowa (about an hour and a half from Des Moines). Willing to drive a little to drop off but not too far. Asking $4,000 but make me an offer. (can e-mail pictures) |

How far from the Twin Cities (MN)? Would you part with the car for less if you kept some things? Return some of it to stock I mean? You'd probably get more by selling the coilovers and a couple things seperate and selling the car nearly stock. I wouldn't want coilovers, cd deck, or speakers. Doesn't need deck or speakers if I buy it so you could sell those on ebay as a package or something.
What's the lowest you'll take? I don't want to lowball, but I want to know. You can PM or email me if you prefer. Thanks. Mike

I would much rather sell the car whole because I'm not planning on buying another saturn. I like the car but it's just too hard to find parts for. I had to pay over $100 just to have the coilovers put on and I just did that a couple of weeks ago, so I'd rather not pay another $100 to have the stock springs put back on just to sell it.

You misunderstand. I'd be interested in the car, just not some of the stuff in it. I wouldn't want the deck or speakers or coilovers. In other words how much would you be willing to part with the car for without that stuff? You could sell that stuff on here or ebay or wherever. I already have all that stuff to put into the car from my 99 SC1. That's what I mean by it. Also, how far are you from the Twin Cities? Just curious if you're close enough for me to come take a look at it sometime.

So would you want everything but the coilovers, cd deck and speakers, or do you want the car completely stock? I'm not sure on how far it is, but I would be willing to meet you somewhere if its no too far.

Roughly 340 miles from center to center.Map function on yahoo!
Pimped, you didn't understand what he was saying. If you don't want the coilovers, just have him sell you the car with stock springs sitting in the trunk. In the end, to get them changed out he will have to pay labor (60-90 bucks an hour) to have it lowered. Then another 90ish bucks for a 4 wheel alignment. That's 200 dollars that he's spending to get it back to stock, when it sounds like you're gonna change it to lowering springs anyways. So why have his lose money by doing so? Adam, unfortunately pimped is on the right track. A modified car (unless it's a high end sports car ususally loses value when stock parts are replaced with aftermarket. It may get you an extra hundred or two overall, but with the money invested, you're gonna lose out. Also the DZ coilovers in general are not real great. The ride is usually rougher than springs, and in reality, you'll probably never adjust them once the alignment is done...so you may want to look into getting that gone. |

The modifications that I have done aren't hard to remove though. The only one that should decrease the price would be the coilovers, but I still have the stock springs, and I just had them installed about a week ago. I'm sorry, but im not going to reduce the price drastically just because I spent around $300 to have the car lowered, and would be willing to give you the stock springs.

I didn't mean to make you think that I wanted a drastic cut in price...You say best offer. My 99 SC1a with 63,500 is worth about 4000 to 4500 on a good day. With the mileage you have and age of it...I really wouldn't expect 4000 for it. I don't mean to be rude at all...I just meant that since you wrote best offer, you would be willing to accept a few hundred less (not like I'm asking you to take it down to 3000....but maybe 3500 to 3750). I'll have to see what KBB and the others list the car for because I may be wrong and it may be worth more than I think.
I also didn't think of the costs for you to have the car returned to stock, in which case the coilovers would be fine to leave on and I'd do it myself. I could switch them out no problem anyway, just have to get an alignment. I was just thinking that maybe you'd take off an extra 50 to 100 bucks if you kept the head unit and speakers if I were to buy the car with nothing in those locations. That way you could either keep or sell those items for the same or possibly more depending on their condition and quality. The distance is quite far. I will probably have to look closer anyway if I decide to stick with a Saturn. I've wanted many other cars over the years and by the end of this year I'm looking forward to getting a 2 year old car at most (hopefully newer depending on what it is) and I was looking for a good side project car. Thanks anyway, I'll still consider it and if you haven't had offers by the time I figure my **** out, then maybe we can work something out (maybe I could fly and pick it up and drive it back or something). Anyway, thanks.

hmm...too bad I just paid to get my car fixed cause that aint toooo bad of a price...
Then again its really high mileage. Saturns dont sell well, theres just too many of em around to keep the price up. --On a side note, Ive been to Ottumwa several times in high skool, I feel sorry for you man. ![]()

For the years sure. But you cant dismiss the fact that it is still high mileage, which greatly detracts from the value of any car.

110k sounds good to me. My SL2 has over 160k now, and our SL1 is just over 200k. 110k isn't that high for a Saturn.

I bought a 1996 SC2 almost fully loaded with 119,000 miles in 2001 when the car was 5 years old from another person at SaturnFans. That averaged out to over 20,000 miles per year. I paid over $4,000 for it. The car was fine. I drove it another 37,967 miles and along the way I added a big list of mods.
Then at eBay I accidentally won a 2002 Trans Am Ram-Air WS6 6-speed with under 10,000 miles in 2003. Nobody had bid on it so I placed a bid equal to the low opening bid as a joke on my wife. The auction had a week to go and anybody could have bid the next increment, I would have dropped out of the auction, and the joke would have ended. But nobody bid on the car because it was advertised as a "Firebird" rather than "Trans Am" with the Ram-Air option package and I ended up winning the car! So the joke was on me. I went through with the purchase, flew from DC to Dallas, and drove the car home. Next I found myself with 6 cars in my garage and driveway and on the street in front of my house. The 1996 SC2 had the most miles so I tried to sell it. I posted it at SaturnFans for $2,651 and nobody bought it (probably because it had almost 160,000 miles), so I donated it to a charity as I didn't want the car hanging around my driveway for who knows how long. The donation gave me substantial income tax deductions. CarFax says the car was later bought by a dealer, sold to another dealer, and then sold to an individual in eastern Tennessee.
