2005 VUE Red Line
Default Setting up XM

I currently have Sirus but was wondering what I have to do to set up the xm service. I see what looks like a small receiver under the back seat of my 2005 redline, do I just contact XM or do I have to go back to dealer?

That's going to be your amplifier for advanced audio. The XM receiver is built into the radio. Do you have the factory XM antenna on the roof? It's flat and on the roof near the hatch. I believe in 05 you could only get XM or OnStar, not both (because of the antenna conflict), so do you have OnStar?

If you've got the factory radio, switch to channel 0 on XM and get your radio ID and then call XM. If you don't have the factory radio, then it's more difficult to tell if you've got factory XM. Is your aftermarket radio XM ready and what do you have to buy for it? The antenna is the deciding factor .. if you've got it, you should be able to hook up any XM radio to it, but if you don't have the antenna, you'll have to run one for it.

I tried the "0" and it does not go there. Now I am thinking that I do not have XM as I was told when I bought the car as I only have the one antenna that I can see which I am sure is the OnStar. So the box underneath the seat is an amp? I will have to explore this a bit. If this is the case, then I guess I will just keep my Sirius for now.

Thanks

Let me think for a minute ... I'm pretty sure on the 05 radio, you need to push "AUX" to get to XM. Try pushing it and try pushing "band" .. if neither gets you to XM, then you don't have it. Once you're onto the XM band, that's when you can tune to channel 0.

Is the box that might be the amp silver and fairly flat? I know in the 07 it's under the passenger side rear seat, mounted to the floor. I think on the older ones it's in the same place but I can't remember for sure where it was on our 04 now that I'm thinking on it. Can you snap a pic of it for me?

I am almost sure now that I don't have XM there is only he one antenna on top. Now that I think about it, I think your right its gotta be an amp.. Noticed your in fairborn ohio. Are there any local meets where people get together? I used to run (still do somewhat) with the Scion crowd, would love to see some more Vues and how people are modding them!

Are you nearby? We tend to have meets fairly often. We had one last month at Young's Dairy, we'll probably have another one in Columbus in a few months. Keep an eye on the planning board, I'm the one that plans them in this area. I usually keep it in my signature when we get dates set.

If you're in the area and see a black 07 RLV with TYC tails, spoiler, dark tint and four-wheel discs ... that's mine!

Color me confused here. If you have Sirius why would you also want to subscribe to XM?
