I could handle Renault-Nissan as a partner. I would have preferred that Saturn stay American, but R-N would be better than a Chinese company I think.

I'd rather just see Saturn die than have it become a foreign owned brand.

I don't want a Renault, I don't want a Nissan, I sure as hell don't want a Chery or Tata, and I don't want a rebadged end of life GM Saturn.
Not much left to choose from.

It seems the idiot administration are the ones who will be making this decision and who knows how many others. This is what pisses me off

Insiders tell Ward's the decision will be made by the government and not necessarily GM executives.

I wouldn't mind Renault-Nissan buying Saturn. They make some cars that I wouldn't mind owning. These are the ones that will most likely come to the US:

Renault Clio(small hatchback,Fit-sized)

Renault Megane(hatchback and sedan, Astra size)

Renault Laguna(Sedan, slightly smaller than Aura)

Renault Koleos(Vue sized)
...
2009 Astra XR 3-door, Salsa Red, 3,000 mi. as of 9/09
2007 ION2, Cypress Green, 56,000 mi. as of 9/09

Long Live Saturn!

Damn! Renault's looking good these days!

Remember, it's "Wrenno" NOT "Ruh nalt"

"Ruh nalt" sounds so clunky and hopeless...just like the old Alliance.

Oh God no.. If this happens I will never buy a Saturn made past the model year when this change takes place. I would much rather them just discontinue Saturn as they did with Oldsmobile and let it rest in peace.

Being a Nissan owner now, I'm not in a position to be objective, but do feel strongly that Renault-Nissan is a more suitable partner for Saturn than either Mitsubishi or Peugeot, and especially the Chinese or Indian brands who still have years before they can meet crash standards much less our regulations or standards for federalization. Would I have liked for Saturn to stay American? Absolutely. Was this a plausible scenario given our present economic environment? Highly unlikely.

BTW, Saturnkid, the Koleos looks like Renault's version of the Nissan Rogue. If the vehicles are related, then this is a textbook example of platform sharing done properly.

I'm not sure what you are looking for. One thing is for certain you aren't going to find it here.

I'd buy anything that looked good to my eye, was priced right, had great reviews and serviced the way my Saturn is now. I don't care where the hell the get cars from if they meet the above criteria.

I have a Saturn and a Pontiac. I'm not happy to see anyone of these car divisions on the chopping block. I would rather see both go by the wayside than join with another car company outside of GM.

GM has to get smaller and should have done this on the own at least three years ago or before the government got involved. They didnt do there job so the government is doing it for them. Dont blame the government because GM balls wasn't big enough make the decisions that the government is doing now.

Ultimately GM is to blame. Buick, GMC and Hummer remain, for now, but Saturn goes. And with it goes the most fuel efficient of GM's brands in North America. Imagine how much MORE fuel efficient they'd be had GM built better hybrids as they promised they would under PNGV.

+1 on that absolutely! also if it has the same (or better) safety ratings, very important to me.

Another reason why R-N would be a good buyer for Saturn. All of the cars featured above have a 5 star EuroNCAP(European NHTSA)crash test rating.

What people fail to remember about the Alliance was that it was not made by Renault, instead by AMC. I believe that it was based on a Renault platform, but most of the parts came from and it was assembled by AMC.

Fixed it for you. GM is looking for a buyer for Hummer and if nobody bites, the brand will be scuttled. Saab is expected to file for bankruptcy protection if it hasn't done so already. Pontiac has about a year to clear inventory from its 36 stand-alone retailers.

The two-mode system from the Vue is expected to debut in the Equinox/Terrain instead. If feasible, the technology should profilerate to the Malibu to compete with the Ford Fusion hybrid.
