Default Power steering rack

Does anyone know if you can swap a variable (SL2) rack with a non-variable (SL1) rack? 96 has the variable, non-variable is 2002.
Thanks fellow gear heads

The two racks should bolt up the same and may very well be identical. The "variable" control is on the power steering pump in the form of an electrically variable orifice, EVO. The signal to the EVO is proportional to the vehicle speed but I've no idea where you would find that signal on an '02. The '96 only has one computer but the '02 has two, the PCM and the BCM. You would have to find the wiring diagrams for an '02 to determine where to wire in the EVO connector on the power steering pump.

Thanks for the reply virnin. The racks appear identical, and the swap is the 02 SL1 rack into the 96 SL2. The original EVO pump in the 96 would be connected to the 02 SL1 rack. Just wanted to see if anyone knew of a problem that would show up with this swap.
Thanks
